Harvey: The Pooka arrives at the Birmingham Rep
The comedic skills of Maureen Lipman and James Dreyfus were put to perfect use last night, when Harvey opened at the Birmingham Repertory theatre. Bringing laughs galore and a heart-warming story, Harvey ensured that the whole audience left the auditorium with a warm glow and a smile on its face. Harvey tells the story of Elwood P. Dowd, a gentle dipsomaniac with a rather special friend, a 6ft invisible rabbit called Harvey. Harvey accompanies Elwood everywhere, much to the dismay of his exasperated sister Veta Louise and his niece Myrtle Mae. Their social life, and indeed, social standing, is being impeded by Elwood’s pal, and after one embarrassing moment when…

Fashion-Mommy reviews: A Fair Isle Cardigan from Woolovers
When it comes to clothing, I love style classics. Pieces like the little black dress, a beige trench coat, wide leg trousers and pure indigo jeans are all pieces that can be worn time and time again, always in style by virtue of not being in fashion. And another item that can be added to the mix is the Fair Isle knit, whether it be a cardigan or jumper. Fair Isle knits are a traditional craft that has been around for hundreds of years, with the knits being used as currency when trading with passing ships. BAFTA 2015 – The Best Looks
Last night was the most glittering occasion on the British movie calender, when Stephen Fry yet again took to the podium to present the BAFTA awards. In recent years the glitter has become even starrier, as more and more American and International stars make their way to London in what is seen to be a good pointer for the Academy Awards. Last night we had American Royalty walking the red carpet, with Julianne Moore, Amy Adams, Reese Witherspoon and Ethan Hawke all making an appearance. European stars Lea Seydoux, Naomi Rapace and Monica Belluci also made the trip to London, with Lea my absolute first choice for best dressed, in…

Happy 1st Birthday to The Balcony
One of Birmingham’s favourite food and drink venues celebrated its first birthday with a rather swanky party last week. The Balcony, situated in Birmingham’s iconic Selfridges and part of the Searcy’s group, has become a place renowned for its fabulous cocktails and eclectic food choices, as well as a celebrity haunt, and it enjoyed a first birthday party that was high on style and substance, with music from a string quartet and canapes that showed off the favourite dishes from The Balcony’s menu. Alice Weyrk, general manager of The Balcony said about the night:- “Birmingham is a wonderful city, and we’re so glad we’ve been able to contribute to what…

Art Deco style Sofas for the new season
We’ve been living in out house for 12 years this August, and despite being decorated throughout in those years, we have made a checklist of things that need buying, replacing and renovating in 2015. Our dining room needs painting and decorating, we want to revamp our bedroom (the most neglected room in our home) and we really could do with a new sofa or three piece suite. We had our current sofa just before Joe was born, so it is now 6 years old. It has been a great sofa, serviceable black leather, with a boxy, slouchy style made for covering in scatter cushions and relaxing on. But a…
