DP Curve is launched
This week has seen the launch of the latest plus size collection to hit the High Street. This time around it is Dorothy Perkins who are expanding their range with DP Curve, a new collection that goes from sizes 18 to 28. Dorothy Perkins promise that this collection is specially designed to ‘fit and flatter a fuller figure’. I have been browsing the site this morning, and have selected my favourite 10 pieces. I like that the collection seems to have something to suit all tastes. There are skinny jeans and leggings with tunics and tops for the rock chick and pretty skater style dresses that will appeal to younger…

You Can’t Stop the Beat – Hairspray is launched in Birmingham
Tuesday saw the launch event for the brightest, bubbliest, biggest musical around, as the cast of Hairspray arrived at Birmingham’s New Alex Theatre. The show will be this year’s big Christmas musical at the Alex, following on from Jersey Boys and Ghost in 2014 and 13 respectively. I was very lucky to be invited to the launch, where the All star cast performed a series of key songs from the musical, and also hosted a Q&A session with the audience. Hairspray is the story of Tracy Turnblad, an overweight teenager who becomes a dance sensation in early 1960s Baltimore. She finds love with the teen idol Link, but also gets…

Declutter your wardrobe this Autumn
I recently did a huge decluttering of my wardrobe. I always think Autumn is the perfect time to do this as I usually remove my summer clothes from my wardrobe and put them into storage bags until Spring comes around again. I then return my winter pieces to the wardrobe, whilst crying and eating copious amounts of chocolate. (yes, I love the sunshine that much and have no love for the time of icicles and frostbite – tis true!) I was amazed at how much stuff I had been hoarding. On average every UK female only wears 70% of their wardrobe. With an average of 144 items of clothing per…

Buckley London Capri Collection
Buckley London is a jewellery collection I have long been familiar with. I remember it having a starring role in the early days of QVC, when its award winning collections combined style with affordability, and recently it has gained further fame and prestige as the designers of The Royal British Legion’s Crystal Poppy Brooch Collection – pieces that you see a lot of TV stars wearing in the lead up to Remembrance Sunday. Buckley London is a name that is synonymous with quality and style. I was recently asked if I would like to review pieces from the newest ranges. I fell totally in love with the Capri collection, and…

Birmingham Rep wardrobe chat about Anita and Me
The stage version of ‘Anita and Me’, Meera Syal’s fantastic novel based on her childhood growing up in Walsall in the 1970s, has its world premiere at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre this Friday. Ahead of the much anticipated show, I was lucky enough to have a chat with Kay Wilton, who is one of the costume makers and cutters at the Birmingham Rep, about how the costumes were sourced for a play that has both feet firmly planted in the 1970s. Fashion-mommy: How did you go about sourcing the costumes for Anita and Me? Kay: We had some original pieces in our stores in Hockley, original 70s stuff that…
