A Coatigan From Femme Luxe

Coatigans, those long cardigans that you can wear in the place of an actual coat, are having a bit of a moment again this Winter. These cosy items of apparel are just perfect for mild Winter days as they are cosy, are very versatile and look great with a wide range of outfits. They look great layered with a blanket scarf, and can be worn over a jumper on colder days for a double layer of knitwear.  In short, every wardrobe should have one as they are something you can turn to each Winter.

Femme Luxe is well known for it’s little white dresses and black dresses, but that is certainly not the whole story when it comes to the brand. It’s wonderful loungewear sets were an absolute staple during the lockdown, and are still perfect for lazy days, whilst this year it has developed a great range of knitwear, including the fabulous striped jumper I reviewed at the end of last year.  This knitwear range has included a selection of coatigans and long cardigans in lots of cute colours, and also in different styles that incorporate hooded designs and those with puffed sleeves.

I reviewed a great midi length cardigan from Femme Luxe last year and have to say I wear it lots, it is such an easy piece to wear, great to throw on over your jeans for a range of daytime occasions – the school run, a bit of shopping, heading out to the gym etc. You can find that review, and how I styled the cardigan here but now I’m turning my attention to another long cardigan/coatigan, in a different colour, and a slightly different design, and am ready to show you how I styled it in three different ways.

The Poppy cardigan is a light grey, knitted long puff sleeved, midi longline cardigan. It is a brilliantly stylish piece – your eyes are immediately drawn to those fantastic sleeves, which balloon out until coming back to a tighter cuff. The cardigan has no buttons and is an end to end style that you can wear loose, or could belt and pin to change the look. The grey shade makes it a great colour to wear with many shades, from classic black and white, to pastel pinks and yellows, to more primary shades of blue and red (navy is a particularly nice match.) The block colour also makes it a good contrast if you decide to wear it with patterns – dots, stripes or florals.

Look 1

My first look is wearing this open, over a mini dress. The bag I’m using is a metallic pewter, so effectively another source of grey, and this splash of colour is provided by the red and orange flowers on the dress. This is a more casual style due to allowing the cardigan to flow naturally.

Look 2

Worn with a different dress, this time a knee length shift style from M&S, and with different colours, this has lots of purple in the mix, the main difference to this look is that the cardigan is fastened with the addition of an elasticated belt.  This creates a waistband to the look, and can also make it feel more snug and cosy on a colder day. Adding a belt makes the look more tailored, better if you avoid looser clothes for fear they swamp your frame. Adding a belt could also add another colour into the mix, or, like my outfit, bring your outfit together.

Look 3

In the third look, the pop of colour comes from the light grey of the cardigan, as the rest of the outfit is black. The cardigan is being worn over a pair of black ‘pleather’ trousers, a knitted black camisole, and black Chelsea boots. The bag and necklace add metallic elements.

There are many other ways you could wear this cardigan. It would be perfect over jeans and a t-shirt teamed with trainers, or could be worn over a cashmere jumper and a black leather skirt, teamed with heels for an outfit that could span from day to night.

How would you wear yours?
