Ahead of Style Search Birmingham – A stylish Interview with Kate Lawler
Saturday will see the launch of Style Search Birmingham. Big Brother’s starm Radio DJ, Kate Lawler, is on the lookout for the most stylish people in Birmingham as part of a brand new initiative from Style Birmingham. Accompanied by Style Birmingham’s Andrew Riley, Kate will be scouring the city’s nightlife in search of those whose style seriously impresses.
Ahead of this, Kate has answered some of Fashion-Mommy’s questions in regard to her own style. Enjoy!
Fashion-Mommy: Tell me a little bit about the style challenge, and why you wanted to be involved.
Kate: I love fashion, and I love Birmingham. Since I moved here around 4 years ago I’ve come to realise that Birmingham is a fantastic city for shopping and home to some of the most stylish young people in the country. I think the style search is a brilliant idea that will also give recognition to those who’s style is really unique and eye-catching.
FM: How would you describe your own style?
KL: My style is more boyish that girly. I like to mix vintage and high street. I rarely shop in designer stores.
FM: Where are your favourite places to shop in Birmingham?
KL: Frock On Vintage in Digbeth, a little boutique run by fashionista Pam Cheema where I always find hand-picked vintage items and shop in private. Selfridges in The Bullring is amazing for variety! Topshop & Urban Outfitters I love too.
FM: Where do you stand on the High Street verses Designer debate?
KL: I think anyone wearing high street can pull off just a stylish look as someone wearing designer. Some of my friends can afford to shop in expensive stores and only buy designer. Others will only ever spend their hard-earned cash in high street shops but most of the time will look just as stylish if not better than the girls who’ve blown hundreds of pounds on expensive items. I love both.
FM: Do you have a favourite designer?
KL:Not really but after watching and reading about London Fashion Week I think if I were to only shop designer labels they would be Mulberry, McQueen and Gucci…
FM: Whose personal style do you admire? KL:
Alexa Chung always gets it right.
FM: What would you say has been your biggest fashion mistake?
KL: The night I won Big Brother 3 and wore a part denim, part sheer floral print skirt and a cream lace shirt. I looked like I’d made my outfit out of curtains.
FM:If your house was on fire and you could only save one item from your wardrobe, what would it be?
KL: My leather biker jacket from GAP which I bought 12 years ago.
FM: And finally, Finish this sentence.. Style is…..
KL: EVERYTHING!
Many thanks to Kate for answering the my questions, and to the ever lovely Andrew Riley and Kim Stephens from Style Birmingham. For more information about the Style search, see below.
