Barbara Hulanicki – latest drop for George
The latest collection from Barbara Hulanicki is now in Asda stores and online and is a perfect transitional collection. Again utilising Barbara’s retro style prints so reminiscent of the iconic Biba collections, paired against classic black, this 10 piece range perfectly bridges the wardrobe gap between Winter and early spring by using jersey style fabrics and longer sleeve lengths.
The prints are mainly based on geometric designs, with stretched diamonds and ovals being the key designs. Added interest is provided in the use of metallic threads to give a very 1970s feel – I’m thinking the classic Missoni styling of adding fine gold thread to bright colours. There are also elements of geometry added to floral prints. This works really well, particularly on the Geo Floral print smock dress.
The collection is not just about dresses. The prints are also applied to a jumper, printed shirt and a very pretty red blouse. I am also pleased to see a rather stylish little black dress in the collection. This is most definitely the most versatile piece. It could be easily dressed up for a night out, or worn with flats or boots for a more daytime look. The slightly puffed sleeves, in particularly, are a real standout detail.
