Barbara Hulanicki for George – Brightest drop yet
I am a huge fan of Barbara Hulanicki, since reading her autobiography I was fascinated by her drive and glamour, and the allure of Biba, which even now, almost 40 years since it shut it’s doors, still has the aura of decadence and beauty, and a glamorous mystique which I don’t think can be applied to any other shop or store. In recent years, Barbara has used patterns, cuts and styles of the past and has applied them to an affordable collection for George at Asda. The collection has been very popular and successful, and the latest drop has just gone live online and in stores. I have to say…

Barbara Hulanicki – latest drop for George
The latest collection from Barbara Hulanicki is now in Asda stores and online and is a perfect transitional collection. Again utilising Barbara’s retro style prints so reminiscent of the iconic Biba collections, paired against classic black, this 10 piece range perfectly bridges the wardrobe gap between Winter and early spring by using jersey style fabrics and longer sleeve lengths. The prints are mainly based on geometric designs, with stretched diamonds and ovals being the key designs. Added interest is provided in the use of metallic threads to give a very 1970s feel – I’m thinking the classic Missoni styling of adding fine gold thread to bright colours. There are also…

Vintage Flashbacks – Celia Birtwell and Barbara Hulanicki
Sometimes it feels as if fashion time isn’t moving forwards, but is instead moving backwards. A case in point is that this last week has seen two new High Street collections launched by ladies who can only be described as legends of the 1960s and 1970s, Biba’s Barbara Hulanicki and Celia Birtwell. Now both grande Dames of fashion, and particularly fashion heroines of anyone who adores print, both Barbara and Celia and their designs remain as relevant as ever. Celia’s latest prints are emblazoning a fabulous new collection of dresses and separates for cool Japanese brand Uniqlo. Shirtwaister dresses, elegant, masculine cut shirts and cute, versatile long sleeved t-shirts are…

Barbara Hulanicki for George – latest drop
I always get excited about a drop from the legendary designer Barbara Hulanicki for George at Asda, finding hard to believe that Barbara brings all that amazing expertise and iconic print styles to a supermarket for such amazing prices. The latest range is now available in stores and online, and it is another corker. Concentrating this time on a palette of grey, cream, red and classic black, Barbara has mixed prints that have a late 60s paisley style with some plain items that could easily become wardrobe staples. Key picks? For me, the cape sleeve little black dress is just gorgeous, and totally belies its £18 price tag, whilst the…

Barbara Hulanicki for George – Spring Drop
The Spring drop from Barbara Hulanicki for George at Asda is in stores now. The usual mixture of gorgeous prints, this season we also see the introduction of a new dress shape in the form of the shirt dress, available in both plain and print form. Eight key pieces have been introduced, with a great pair of leggings for just £8 bound to be a popular buy. My key pieces are a fabulous jersey jacket in animal print, and a sheer floral patterned shirt that would look amazing buttoned up to the neck with cigarette pants. The dresses, as ever, are great day to night pieces, and total value buys,…
