Best Dressed – Critics Choice Awards
Another day, another awards ceremony. This time it was the Critics Choice Awards. Amanda Seyfried, Anne Hathaway, Marion Cotillard and Jessica Chastain were just some of the Hollywood superstars who shoved on their finest dress and got those elbows flexed to fight it out in the acting (and fashion) stakes.
As I’ve already mentioned, I get very excited about the awards season, as this is where we really get to see if all those wonderful dresses we admired so much on the catwalk actually convert into red carpet dressing. (The rule is that some do perfectly, whilst many others really need to go back to the drawing board.) Here are some of the dresses and looks that impressed.
Good looks
Amanda Seyfried and Octavia Spencer opted for one of this seasons hottest colours, a whole load of chiffon, and both looked amazing in seriously gorgeous looks. Amanda’s dress was from Marios Schwab and I love the interesting skirt pleating that just raised this dress up a whole level for me. Octavia, as ever, was in Tadashi Shoji and once again showed exactly how to dress a curvy figure in a totally elegant way.
Marion Cotillard is often hit and miss in my eyes, she takes risks that don’t always pay off. But this dream of a dress from Zuhair Murad was a total winner. Very 1950s in silhouette, very feminine with the floral applique detail, and acres of black tulle, this is one of the prettiest dresses you will see on the red carpet this season.
Helen Hunt went for a beautiful coral lace and column gown by Philip Armstrong that was a really fabulous choice. With her blonde hair and pale skin, and teamed with gold accessories, I think this was a really elegant look for Helen.
Emily Blunt and Anne Hathaway, those girls I have loved since The Devil Wears Prada both chose to wear white. Both looked good, if not great. Anne went for a 1970s style bugle Beaded dress from Oscar De La Renta. This was the sort of thing that Bob Mackie made for Cher in the 1970s and is amazing, but the lack of accessories left Anne looking sort of unfinished.
Emily Blunt also went for a light option, (cream really, rather than white), a great 1960s style beaded collar dress from Miu Miu. I again loved the look, although as I said with Brittany Snow earlier in the week, I would prefer this to reach the floor, rather than be ankle skimming length. But is Emily’s blonde hair I have a problem with. As a brunette she is simply amazing, but blonde leaves her looking washed out and bland. I hope it is just a wash in colour and that she returns to her beautiful brunette roots – no pun intended.

wow how amazing does Helen Hunt look? The Coast dresses are gorgeous,as always, can almost put money on the fact that I’ll end up with a dress from there this year for my son’s wedding!

Coast is always great for those special occasions. I was maid of honour to my sister, and had a Coast black dress, it was perfect.

I adore Marion Cotillards dress it is perfect, also her sandals nude and just understated enough with that fabulous dress. Helen Hunt looking feminine and gorgeous. I think that the Ann Hathaway dress needed something around the neck, some simple though as the dress speaks for itself but…..not sure on her to be honest. Cant see Emily Blunts dress.
As for Coast, they always have stunning dresses but a little like Monsoon I dont fit into their sizing or dress shape.
Its the Golden Globes tomorrow! cant wait!

I love Marion cotilliards dress! I actually have the pink zuzanna maxi from coast for an upcoming dinner! Along with the red fox maxi that Jayne Torvill wore on Dancing on Ice last week 🙂 it helps that I work for Coast though! So many beautiful dresses!
