Christmas Gifts for Coffee Lovers
“Even bad coffee is better than no coffee at all.” ― David Lynch “Police work wouldn’t be possible without coffee,” Wallander said. “No work would be possible without coffee.” They pondered the importance of coffee in silence.” ― Henning Mankell, One Step Behind Do you remember the days before posh coffee? The days when you just put your instant Nescafe in a cup and added milk and water? It is really hard to believe that there was a time when coffee wasn’t about baristas, Lavazza Coffee beans,mocha-chinos and flat whites, adding Monin syrups in caramel or vanilla flavour, waiting for the Christmas cups and generally spending your time in Starbucks…

Happy 1st Birthday Nosh & Quaff
Last week saw one of Birmingham’s most popular and unusual restaurants celebrate it’s 1st birthday. And, because this is the restaurant that saucily encourages its patrons with the suggestion ‘Let’s Get Messy’, Nosh & Quaff celebrated in some style, with Pornstar Bellinis, live entertainment and some fabulous new dishes. It was quite a night. Nosh & Quaff is a restaurant that I had not visited until last week, mainly because of its reputation as the best place to eat Lobster in Birmingham. As everyone I know seemed to have tried the said lobster – getting messy in the process, and as I hate lobster, I didn’t think this was the…

Afternoon Tea at Chi Kitchen
Chi Kitchen is, without doubt, one of my favourite places to dine in Birmingham. So when I received an invite to try the Chi Kitchen take on afternoon tea I was super intrigued. Chi Kitchen serves a glorious mixture of dishes that can be described as Pan- Asian, whereas afternoon tea is the most English of dishes. So how, exactly, would this work. The answer is that the twist on afternoon tea, served with that Pan Asian Twist, is exceedingly good. Afternoon tea is always best when there is an addition of Prosecco, and at Chi Kitchen, this was a deliciously crisp variety, with the addition of a cherry in…

Getting more fruit into your diet.
I have a confession to make, I don’t eat anywhere near enough fruit. It’s not that I don’t like it, I actually love most fruit, strawberries being a particular fave, along with melon, grapes and oranges, but most days I eat zero fruit, which is neither good for me, or a good example to set for Joe. With this in mind I have been thinking of some practical ways to introduce more fruit into our diets. Try Juicing A great way of getting a variety of fruit into your diet is through juicing. You can use a whole range of different fruits, and the internet is literally full of recipes…

Afternoon tea week at Caffe Concerto
Last week was Afternoon tea week, seven days designated to enjoying all the ‘dolce’ delights you can find on that traditionally most English of all sweet and creamy courses. I enjoyed my afternoon tea at Caffe Concerto, part of the elegant Italian chain who specialise in exquisite looking cakes and desserts and real Italian Gelato. The whole experience was delightful, although if you are currently counting the calories, it may be a place best avoided, as the cakes and pastries are truly hard to resist. Caffe Concerto, Birmingham is situated in Grand Central. The concession is part of the wider food offering which dominates the centre of Grand Central, and…
