Strada Kids Party at the Birmingham Mailbox
Half term week had a special treat for Joe and I when we were invited to a special party at Strada in the Birmingham Mailbox. It was a lot of fun, with pizza making and activity packs for the children, and Prosecco and fine food for the adults. The children also got the chance to try dishes from the Strada Squad menu, a menu that has been specially approved by a panel of children acting as taste testers. The day started with the pizza making session. Pizza bases and a range of toppings were provided and the children all had great fun designing their own pizza. Joe was really happy…

Dressed for work with the Birmingham Royal Ballet
A wonderful new photographic exhibition opened in Birmingham last week. ‘Dressed for Work’ is a fantastic celebration of the work of Marta Kochanek and is part of the 25th Birthday celebrations of the Birmingham Royal Ballet. The photographs feature four of the key dancers from the BRB, First Soloist Celine Gitttens, Principal Momoko Hirata, Soloist Rory Mackay and Principal Cesar Morales and shows their transformation from their normal wardrobes, to being ‘Dressed for Work’. I love the idea behind the exhibition, which states “Most of us naturally think of our wardrobes as including both work and play clothes, or casual or dress clothes. But what happens when fancy dress is…

Mailbox Sessions at the Everyman Cinema
The Birmingham Mailbox was relaunched in some style last month with Mailbox Sessions. Taking place over a weekend, the Mailbox Sessions were special, free events dedicated to showcasing the best of the Mailbox in terms of fashion and beauty, food and entertainment. Many of the sessions were presented by the lovely Lucy Kite from ITV, and all were well attended. I was invited to quite a few of the sessions, but the one which totally had me jumping up and down was a Breakfast at Tiffany’s special at the Everyman Cinema. The session was all about having breakfast at a screening of Breakfast at Tiffany’s, complete with Bucks Fizz and…

The Art of Scent at Harvey Nichols
Having the world’s worst cold which has totally eroded all sense of taste and smell is probably not the best thing to be suffering with when you attend a night dedicated to perfume. But, unfortunately, that was exactly what I was suffering from when I went to the beautiful Harvey Nichols store in Birmingham’s Mailbox to enjoy The Art of Scent. Not being able to actually enjoy the fragrances did not mean I didn’t enjoy the night, it was a fascinating insight into the world of perfume, and, with the Q&A session with Alice Lavenat, there was a real opportunity to learn all about the life of a perfumer. Throughout…

Social Plates at Gas Street Social
Gas Street Social has been a great addition to Birmingham’s thriving food and cocktail scene and I was very happy to be invited to try out one of its most successful innovations, the social sharing plates. So yesterday I made a trip to Birmingham’s Mailbox to try out a selection of the dishes on the social menu. The social plates are a range of dishes that are meant to be shared – sort of like tapas, but on a larger scale. The idea is that you choose a selection of dishes to share amongst a group, these can be from a vegetable, meat of fish selection. This is a great…
