    Stylish Films: Moonage Daydream

Bowie. The prettiest Star of all, the brightest, boldest and best. The world has never really been the same since his light was extinguished in January 2016, just days after the release of what was to be his last album, Blackstar. But now he’s back, lighting up big screens in the gloriously weird and wonderful documentary film Moonage Daydream. If you are a fan of Bowie, this is absolutely not to be missed. Written, directed, produced and edited by Brett Morgen, Moonage Daydream is an absolute labour of love. Taking it’s name from the Ziggy Stardust era song that had once been gifted to Arnold Corns, the group that Bowie…

Reviewed – Midnight Train To Georgia

Gladys Knight is one of the greats of modern music. Known as the Empress of Soul, the legendary singer is a 7 times Grammy winner with a back catalogue that is chocked full of classic songs including ‘Midnight Train To Georgia’, ‘Help Me Make It Through The Night’ and my personal favourite ‘The Way We Were’. Now her live performances are being celebrated in a wonderful stage show, ‘Midnight Train To Georgia’ which features a live on stage band and the incredible vocal talents of Hayley Ria Christian. I went to see the show last night at Birmingham’s Alexandra Theatre and enjoyed every single minute, it is a wow, a…

Calling Planet Earth At The Alexandra Theatre

Last night Birmingham was dragged back to the early electronic 80s by a brilliant new show that has been taking the Country by storm. Calling Planet Earth is a live music show that features all the greatest songs of the New Romantic/Electronic era performed by a full band and singers Michael King, Jay Ashton and Lindsay Goodhand. I was there as a guest of SeatPlan, who can find you the very best seats for all sorts of theatre performances. The vocals and performances are all exceptional, and those classic songs are still capable of having the whole room on its feet as we are transported back to the days of…

The Beatles: Get Back, The Rooftop Concert

Cinema is always a treat, a way of seeing what is bright, shiny and new in the world of films. But sometimes it is something more than that, an event that takes you back in time to see a snapshot of another time, another world. On Sunday I took a trip to my favourite cinema, The Light in Walsall, to watch the greatest band of all time on the big screen once more. The experience lasted for little more than an hour, but was something that had to be experienced on the big screen. I am talking about Get Back, the Rooftop Concert, a recording of the last live ‘concert/performance’…

Jersey Boys Is Just Stunning At The Alexandra Theatre

The return of the much anticipated musical Jersey Boys had its press night at the The Alexandra Theatre in Birmingham last night and it certainly didn’t disappoint. Sparkling set pieces, uniformly excellent performances, and those magical songs ensured that the packed house was on its feet by the end of the show, all hoping for one more song before they trooped off into the bitterly cold night. Even an enforced change to the actor playing Frankie Valli at the interval couldn’t stop it from being perfect. It was just that good. Jersey Boys is the story of the Four Seasons, the New Jersey band who had hit after hit at…
