Fashion and Frolics in Birmingham to raise funds for the Meningitis Trust.
Stand by fashionista’s, I have a date for your diary. Friday 19th August sees a very special fashion show in Birmingham to raise much-needed funds for the Meningitis trust. This promises to be a very special night in the heart of the city. The fashion show is going to feature clothes supplied by two very special sources. Ruffles of Kenilworth sells chic designer names like Day Birger et Mikkelson, French Connection, Hoss Intropia, and the Duchess of Cambridge‘s new fave, Malene Birger. The clean designer lines of Ruffles will be contrasted with the cool retro clothing provided by Love Vintage of Leamington Spa. This is a vintage store that specialises…

Fred Perry release Amy Winehouse’s posthumous collection.
Fred Perry released the Autumn/Winter 2011 Amy Winehouse for Fred Perry collection on Monday. A statement on their site says that this is with the blessing of Amy’s family, and that royalties and fees from the collection will go to the soon to be established Amy Winehouse foundation. The collection is really poignant, because it is completely, absolutely Amy. You can almost picture her wearing the collection in publicity shots, so close is it to her personal style. This has elements of 1960s mods and ska – think Quadrophenia and Rude boys. The collection is black and white, featuring dog-tooth checks on jumpers, shirts and mini skirts. There are also…

Bree Van De Kamp – A television Style Icon.
And so Desperate Housewives is to end. The series, which relaunched Terri Hatcher and made a star of Eva Longaria has finally been axed, after it was decided that enough serial killers, accidental killers, child snatchers and people with secrets had moved into one suburban street, particularly one with a name as pretty as Wysteria Lane. I stopped watching quite a while back, but still think that we should mourn the passing of a true TV style icon, Bree Van De Kamp, as played by the gorgeous Marcia Cross. Bree was the only style star of Desperate Housewives, she was the Carrie Bradshaw of Wysteria Lane. Not that Bree and…

Altuzarra revivies the Grunge Glamour of 90s Mossy.
It seems fitting in that in the year which sees the 20th anniversary of the grunge scene that so revitalised 1990s music, Altuzarra would produce a collection for Autumn/Winter 2011 that celebrates the grungy glamour of throwing a parka over your prettiest party dress. The inspiration for this collection? Kate Moss off course! Now, think back to the early days of Grunge, which juxtaposed the start of the career of the woman destined to be the most infamous supermodel of them all. Grunge music bought grunge fashion – Courtney Love in her torn nighties and Doc Marten boots and Babes in Toyland in 1960s dresses and parkas. Then along came…

The legendary Zandra Rhodes designs a capsule collection for Simply Be!
The word legend is sometimes applied a little to easily. But in fashion terms, Zandra Rhodes is most definitely a total legend. The flamboyant designer dressed the beautiful and famous of the 1970s and 1980s, from supermodels like Pat Cleveland, to Princess Diana, who looked beautiful in a white Zandra Rhodes gown that was later sold in the famous 1997 auction. Today, in the time of our fashion obsession with all things 1970s, she is as relevant as ever, with fashionistas falling over themselves in order to acquire pieces of vintage Zandra Rhodes. Nicole Richie is a huge fan, who is often photographed in vintage pieces, looking amazing in boho…
