Charity Shop Focus: Acorns Wednesbury
Regular readers of this blog know that I am a huge fan of charity shops, and of the bargains that you can find in them. Today I am going to be focusing on one of my favourite charity shops. This is he Acorns shop in Wednesbury town centre. Acorns shops are run in support of the Acorns Children’s hospices, raising funds for the valuable work they do in supporting the families of terminally ill children.
Wednesbury is a small, but thriving, Black Country town, and the Acorns store is a great charity shop. It is clean, bright and well organised, always has a good selection of stock which is changed and updated regularly, and is reasonably priced. The goods are both of a decent quality and standard – nothing ripped or stained is put out for sale. The shop always has a particularly good and extensive shoe section too, and it is not uncommon to find goods that are ‘as new’, often complete with tags.
As with every charity shop, Acorns Wednesbury is always looking for donations of clothes (men, women’s and children’s), shoes and accessories, bric-a-brac and ornaments, jewellery and toys. They are also on the hunt for volunteers, so if you have a few hours to spare each week, you could help an essential charity shop continue its good work.
If you have not visited a charity shop yet, below are some more reasons why this could be a great idea.
- You Can Find Your Holiday Wardrobe
Whether you are looking for some new shorts, a sunhat, or a beach bag, you can find them all in your local Acorns shop.
- You Can Find Quality High Street And Designer Buys
The beautiful Osprey pony skin bag was my key find in the Wednesbury store, but there were lots of good quality items including Marks and Spencer, ASOS, Mango and Kipling on sale too.
- You Can Find Good Vintage and Antique Buys
Lovely vintage pieces, both fashion items and those for the home, can be picked up for bargain prices in charity shops. I love those classic Babycham glasses from the 1970s – now definite collectors pieces.
- It’s Not Just For The Girls
Charity shops are certainly not just for the girls. In the Wednesbury store I found labels that included retro Le Coq Sportif, Adidas and Admiral, as well as High Street names like Next and Topman.
- Kids Can Spend Their Pocket Money Too!
Rather than letting your child spend their pocket money on pound shop junk, why not let them browse the beautiful books and cuddly toys you can find in a charity shop. In the Wednesbury store, I found the collectable St Michael label Zippy from Rainbow.
