Preloved Special – Homes and Books
As regular readers of this blog know, I love a preloved bargain. Whether that be from Vinted, from a Charity shop, from a car boot sale, or from an antiques or vintage shop, I just love finding something a little different to the general High Street or online.
Today I am looking at some of the preloved beauties I have seen recently. I am focusing on homewares and books, with, as you might have guessed, a focus once again on Agatha Christie books, something I am frequently trying to source. Many of the things featured are items that I have actually bought, whilst others are things I regret not buying.
Ironbridge Antiques
The first three pictures are items I saw, but didn’t buy in the Ironbridge antiques centre. This is one of my favourite places for sourcing art deco pieces at reasonable prices. I really like the amber glass vase, which may have been Sowerby, a key name in art deco design.
Another art deco style piece is this vase that I saw in the British Heart Foundation. It did have a markers print on the bottom but I can’t remember what it was. It is a more modern interpretation of Deco, but, for just £4, it is a definite bargain.
Tenovus Cancer Care
A trip to Wales at the weekend saw a first trawl around a Tenovus shop this year. Tenovus raise much needed funds for cancer research, and are a real gold mine when it comes to finding really good quality items. This weekend I saw some brilliant mid century modern pieces, including the fabulous 1960’s pyrex cups featured below. I also loved the 1950’s t0ast rack, which had a real Festival of Britain feel to it, super stylish.
Back to BHF
My local Bristish Heart Foundation stores in Walsall and Cannock both have brilliant book sections, but the Walsall branch absolutely outdid itself last week with a huge section of Agatha Christie facsimile hardbacks priced at £3.50 each. Three came home with me, and I am going to pop back this week to see if any further remain. These were in absolutely mint condition, just a brilliant find!
Charity shops are a brilliant way to source and improve your book collection, whether you opt for cosy crime or something else. I have found so many Agatha Christie books, as you can see below, but you can also find other golden age writers, such as Ngaio Marsh, as well as classics like the PG Wodehouse Blandings collection below.
