It used to be that most ridiculed item of clothing. Knitted by spinster aunts and grannies, gifted on Christmas Day. Worn for 10 minutes whilst cringing, and then hidden away, never to be spoken of again. We all remember that turkey buffet in the first Bridget Jones movie, when Mark Darcy’s hotness is slightly tempered by his choice of knitwear. Yes, I can only be talking about festive knits, but the Christmas jumper has come a long way since those bad old days.
These days, everyone gets into the spirit of Christmas by donning a jumper, and you can even do your bit for charity by wearing one. This year, Friday December 16th is Christmas Jumper Day, raising funds for Save the Children by asking people to wear a jumper and donate. Celebrities have shown that jumpers can range from the sublime and stylish, with Kate Moss in a Bella Freud version leading the way. But they can also be great fun too, with bad taste versions also proving popular.
And men enjoy wearing them just as much as us ladies do. In particular, Premier League football teams now produce their own version, with Match of the Day magazine producing a chart rundown of its faves last year. Olivier Giroud, my ultimate man crush, totally shows that they can still look as sexy as hell on the right person, and show a sense of humour too. Granit Xhaka, Graziano Pelle and Joe Hart also get into the Christmas Spirit, along with my West Brom faves, Claudio Yacob and Ben Foster.
This year there is a huge range of choice when it comes to a festive Knit, this post features some of my faves.
