Duchess of Cambridge shines in gold at the Parlympics opening ceremony
It was a case of going for gold for Duchess Kate at the Olympics opening ceremony when she opted for a glorious brocade/lace coat in the subtlest of gold shades. Perhaps giving her support for another gold rush for Team GB, Kate wore a beautiful coat/dress from Day Birger et Mikkelson that she had worn as long ago as 2006, and has recycled almost every year since. But you can’t really blame her for this – it is a stunning piece, the perfect colour for the occasion, and also bang on trend for the next influx of brocade and lace that was so part of the A/W 2012 collections.
Kate is a huge fan of lace/brocade styles, and you can find this sort of look on the High Street and online for the new season. One of my favourite pieces is the gorgeous lace coat from Topshop that comes in a vintage colour that is delightfully described as tea stained! La Redoute also has a shorter brocade coat that is currently reduced. I think this is a great buy for the new season – a really cute vintage style cover up that has a 1960s feel to it.
If you prefer a dress, then you could still channel the brocade style, or go for lace, a style the Duchess often opts for. There are still some gorgeous champagne and gold lace dresses available in the late Summer sales, or you could choose a new season style or colour.
Kate teamed her beautiful coat with a lovely clutch bag from Wilbur & Gussie that has a very familiar look to it. Both Kate and sister Pippa are fans of this company, who create the sort of perfect evening bags that take you from all events, from weddings to black tie affairs. Exquisitely beaded, these are statements bags that again have a vintage air to them. You can currently find a whole range of Wilbur & Gussie clutches at House of Fraser. I have picked out a few of my favourites for you.
