Fashion enjoys a velvet goldmine
When it comes to fabric, this is the season that velvet makes a comeback. The ornate, luxurious fabric always has the potential to steal the show, with its dark and dramatic connotations, but this is the season that it shows it can be effective in more colours than just the traditional ‘Black Velvet’ or ‘Blue Velvet’ immortalised in song.
It seems there has not been a red carpet in 2015 that has not been walked by someone in velvet. From Camilla Alves at the SAG Awards to Alicia Vikander in a soft, silvery grey at the Cannes Film Festival, velvet has become a staple for all seasons. And it isn’t just the ladies who love to sport the most glamorous of fabrics. Eddie Redmayne moved the velvet suit from the realms of the caberet singer when he wore a teal version with a silver grey tie, he looked so hot.
ASOS has a wide range of velvet pieces this season, some of which you could actually add to a daytime look to add a little decadence to your look. There are also velvet shoes, heels and boots that are great for those who just want to add a little touch of velvet goldmine to a little black dress or a pair of skinny jeans.
Will you be adding any velvet pieces to your wardrobe this season, or will you be saving it for Christmas?

I love it, but it is a little marmite – you love it or hate it.
