GQ/Selfridges Mens shopping event…If Carlsberg invented shopping evenings…

…They would be like this one. Men are notoriously bad shoppers, they either view it as a necessary evil when they need new jeans, shoes etc, or they trawl behind wives and girlfriends holding copious amounts of bags, all the time moaning about the football, rugby, cricket, darts they could be watching. So the GQ/Selfridges shopping evening, held in Birmingham on Wednesday, was clearly the work of genius.

With complimentary bottles of Peroni available, along with vodka and whisky for those who like their chasers, this was clearly a shopping evening with a difference. DJ’s played thumping tunes, whilst expert advice was on hand about the latest trends from both the Selfridges buying team and GQ’s resident Style Shrink Robert Johnston. Clearly defined areas and displays showcased the latest trends, making life so much easier for those who like to find their style choices without the browsing, with the carefully put together new trends offering stylish inspiration for those in need of a new look.

As well as advice on fashion, men’s beauty was also on the agenda. In the past, this has been a much neglected area, but men are now catching up with women in the beauty product stakes, and are starting to look seriously at grooming. Nail technicians from Leighton Denny were offering Man-He-Cures, there were wet shaves from Umberto Gianni, whilst Kiehls products also proved popular.

As well as fab mens fashion and beauty treatments, shoppers also had the added incentive of a bespoke t-shirt created for them by the urban artist The Urbanist, if they spent £75 on the night. The artist drew large crowds, enthralling them with his supreme talent for street designs.

The evening was a great success.  It was fully subscribed to through GQ magazine, and many other shoppers also drifted in to find out what was happening in the Menswear department. This was the shopping evening for men, which allowed men to be men, with a beer in one hand and a bespoke graffiti T-shirt in the other. At the end of the night, luxury goodie bags were given out to the very happy shoppers. All in all, a fab evening for all the male of the species, and this female rather enjoyed it too!
