New season trends ‘Boy meets Lady’

As August starts, and the glorious weather inevitably reverts to form, it is also inevitable that I start to look to the new season trends. August is, after all, the month when magazines pull out the big guns in the form of ‘The September Issue’, and we all start to think about what we will be wearing in Autumn, whether we want to or not.

One of the trends I really love is the one that John Lewis have cleverly titled ‘Boy meets Lady’. This season there is a definite feminine feel to our wardrobes, but one that has a masculine edge to it. Ladylike skirts are de-prettified with the addition of plain sweatshirt style tops a la Bella Freud mid 1990s. Tailored, mannish shirts are given a girlish tone by adding shoes with the sort of mid heel that The Queen favours. It’s a mixed up, slightly schizophrenic collection and I love it. And whilst our wardrobe will also embrace unisex favourites, with some seriously stylish cuts from Barbour, pieces that have a clear masculine or feminine identity will be meshing very nicely thank you, in the same outfit.

A little bit like this…

Take one leather skater skirt,

Add one slouchy, sports luxe style sweatshirt,

Add an amazing grey, square heeled shoe from Kurt Geiger,

Add a colour pop clutch bag…every outfit needs a touch of colour after all.

So, what do you think. I love this outfit and think all the pieces could be mixed and matched to create so many other outfits.
