Red Carpet Dressing With Femme Luxe
Tonight will see the most prestigious event on the fashion calendar, as the Museum of Metropolitan Art in New York hosts its annual fundraising event, the Met Ball. Each year it has a fashion theme, this year’s being ‘Karl Lagerfeld – A Line of Beauty’ in tribute to the former Chanel artistic director and legendary fashion designer who died in 2019. Expect to see lots of vintage Chanel, and Chanel inspired looks worn by the likes of SJP and queen of the Met Ball Blake Lively, as the world of fashion’s great and good turn up to grace the starriest of red carpets.
As a mere mortal, I don’t have that many opportunities to walk a red carpet, but red carpet dressing is not confined to celebrities, we all have occasions in our lives when we can push the boat out when it comes to our wardrobes. From Summer weddings held in beautiful venues, events which call for ‘black tie’, nights at the theatre, or Summer Balls, there are many occasions when you too can dress like a celebrity, if only for one night. Femme Luxe, a brand known mainly for its comfortable lounge wear, is also one of the best destinations when it comes to slinky evening wear, from classic little black dresses, to something glamorous in a jewelled shade that would actually work for your Winter evening occasions too.
The Savannah one shoulder ruched slinky midi dress is a Femme Luxe classic design that comes in a range of colour ways that range from classic black and white, to pastel shades and rich, jewelled colours. This is a dress that is reminiscent of the Herve Leger bandage style dresses of the 1980s and it’s ruched design that is ultimately very flattering for the stomach and the hip area.
I am wearing a size 16 in this dress, and it is a comfortable fit with plenty of room (I could, and have, sized down in this style of dress from Femme Luxe previously). The material is thick enough to not show anything through it, and the tie belt could be worn tied at the front, as I have styled it, or tied at the back. The ruching is flattering, and the midi length is also pretty stylish, giving the look more elegance that a shorter skirt would. I love the jewelled Emerald shade that I am wearing, it would look great with animal print accessories, or colour clashed with a rich royal blue or vibrant red.
I accessorised my dress with gold accessories. I wore a pair of Dune Diana heels in gold glitter, and added a vintage pearl brooch that I picked up from an Antique shop. I also wore a pair of Bulgari sunglasses for a couple of disparate reasons – 1. Because designer sunglasses are often a must on Hollywood red carpets, and 2. I was nursing a double eye infection which made my own eyes very red and sore – hardly red carpet ready. For an evening out I would add an oversized gold clutch bag for all those essentials.

I’m going to Pamplona, Spain, soon for the first time after 7 years. I stopped flying because the stress of the airport triggered my epilepsy.
If I were lucky enough to win I’d wear this on my first evening out there as a celebration of having recovered a part of my life that I love.
