Reviewed – AX Paris Chiffon Embellished Maxi Dress

When you think of occasion dressing, AX Paris isn’t necessarily the first brand that springs to mind. But if you wear plus size clothing, you could be making a big mistake if you forget about AX Paris when planning a special outfit for a wedding, ball or Ladies Day event. This year, the website is just full of totally beautiful gowns that would suit any occasion – they are simply that special.

On Thursday I was a guest at the Aegon Ladies Day event, held during the Aegon Classic tennis event at Birmingham’s Edgbaston Priory Club. This is a very special occasion with a host of gorgeously attired ladies and special guest. Michelle Heaton was the ambassador for the day and looked stunning in coral lace, so the fashion stakes were raised high. My choice of dress was the Chiffon Embellished Maxi dress in navy, below is the same dress in the ivory version, as I believe AX Paris are awaiting stock in navy at present.

First of all I need to tell you how beautiful this dress is. The chiffon is very floaty, but with a thicker under layer that helps the skirt avoid being static, or see-thru (both big problems with summer dresses). The armholes are cut really generously, so there is no digging into your flesh, but they are equally not gaping – they fitted perfectly. And then there was the beautiful bead-work, not over embellished and ostentatious, but really subtle, especially being in the same colour as the dress.

The dress is true to size, but if you have a larger bust you may need to size up as it fastens with a zip, therefore is not as stretchy as some of the AX Curve dresses. In terms of length, this was also perfect for me. I’m 5ft 7 and could wear this with a flat shoe without it dragging along the floor, if you were a little shorter in height, a small heel should suffice. I didn’t add much in the way of jewellery as I think the dress speaks for itself, but it would probably look gorgeous with a blingy broach added to the bodice.

The dress was lovely to wear, and it did make me feel very glamorous. I was ‘papped’ by reporters from the local press for the fashion sections which was highly amusing, and just a bit embarrassing ( I never feel natural on photographs), but was also affirmation that this was a great dress. I think the ivory version is actually lovely enough to get married in, and for £40 I think the quality is just superb.
