Sarah Jessica Parker – The style icon is back!
Like most women, I adore Sarah Jessica Parker and her inimitable style. She is, after all, Carrie Bradshaw – the women with the most lusted after wardrobe on both the small and silver screen. But lately, things have been quiet on the Carrie Bradshaw front. The critical mauling that Sex in the City 2 took means that it is looking very unlikely that there will be a Sex in the City 3,whilst Sarah herself had been a little quiet, seeming be photographed only when she was looking casual on the school run.
But May has seen the re-emergence of a true style icon. From a triumphant appearance at the met ball wearing a stunning dress by Alexander McQueen, to the beautiful lace Valentino gown she wore to the New York Ballet Spring gala performance, there have been amazing look after amazing look from SJP. Last week saw her stealing the fashion headlines in D &G and Elie Saab at the Cannes Film Festival.
There have been a few jarring points. The Cheryl Cole doing Tammy Wynette on ‘Stars in their eyes’ hairstyle is best avoided unless you are a Tammy or Dolly tribute act living in Nashville (But don’t let that detract attention from the purple dress – a seriously sexy number.) I would also like to see a jewelled clutch with the Valentino rather than the cross body bag which is a little bit daytime for such an ornate dress. But on the whole these looks rock. And the most astonishing thing about the looks is the lack of flesh on display. These are looks that women will love and cherish, rather than men.
So rejoice ladies, for while we may not now have Carrie, we’ll always have SJP!
