Valentino:Master of Couture is coming to Somerset House

I am super excited by an exhibition that is going to be hitting London, specifically Somerset House, this November. Valentino:Master of Couture is a major new exhibition that will celebrate the life and work of the legendary designer, with a focus on his glorious haute couture pieces, as worn by some of the world’s most famous and beautiful women, including Julia Roberts, Grace Kelly, Jackie Kennedy Onassis and Sophia Loren. With dresses well known from red carpet appearances, to couture that has graced the world’s biggest and best couture catwalks, and with the special appearance of privately commissioned pieces, this exhibition promises to bring all the beauty and elegance of the Valentino to a captive audience.

The list of dresses that will make up part of this exhibition are breathtaking. Think Julia Roberts in the classic 1982 vintage black and white Valentino on the night she won her Oscar for Erin Brockovich, or Jackie Onassis in a simple white shift dress that she wore to marry Aristotle in 1968. Another highlight is sure to be a royal wedding dress worn by one of the chicest of Princesses, the pearl encrusted ivory creation worn by Princess Marie- Chantal of Greece in 1995. And then, there are of course, Valentino red dresses to admire and adore, the iconic creations of a master atelier.

What I really love is how this exhibition is being organised. Somerset House’s Embankment Galleries will be transformed into a catwalk with a difference, the visitors will be ‘models’ parading along a 60 metre runway admiring the audience, who are all Valentino couture clad, providing a visual history of the label from the 1950s to today. This will be thematic rather than chronological, items will be grouped together under categories like colour, or volume. The exhibition will also offer a behind the scenes look at the work of the atelier through films that have been especially created for the exhibition, along with a chance to view the Valentino Garavani virtual museum.

Valentino has himself said ‘…Each of these designs have a beautiful story…’ and Somerset House is certainly a beautiful setting, meaning that together this will be the fashion event of the winter, a much anticipated fashion exhibition for lovers of couture and all things exquisite. I personally can’t wait for it’s arrival.

The Valentino:Master of Couture Exhibition will run from November 29th 2012 to March 3rd 2013

Tickets cost £12.50.

Getting set for Summer with TK Maxx

With temperatures in the UK set to eclipse those in Ibiza this week, now is definitely the time to be sorting out that Summer Wardrobe. And a key part of that has to be sunglasses. What fashionista would be seen without a pair of glamorous sunnies, whether it be day or night, a Red Carpet event or a photocall?

This season, fab High Street outlet TK Maxx has an amazing range of designer sunglasses available. Thankfully these come without the enormous price tag often attached to these covetable accessories. They have hot designer ranges including Valentino, Marc  Jacobs and lust-haves from the gorgeous Mr Tom Ford himself, with styles that range from the cute and quirky to ultra Hollywood glamour.

The prices are amazing, starting at £12.99. So whether you need you shades for relaxing poolside, driving on sun blazed roads, or merely for posing in the park, TK Maxx needs to be you starting point when it comes to selecting a pair of sunnies. Here are a few of my top picks for getting that superstar style this season.

Marc Jacobs

Famed for his love of the quirky and unique (who can forget Victoria Beckham stuck in an oversized paper bag, Marc Jacobs shades score highly on the fashion credibility rating. With stars like Gwen Stefani, Jessica Biel and Jessica Simpson fans of the range, you won’t believe that you can get the same looks from TK Maxx for £24.99!

Everyone from Kate Moss to Victoria Beckham has been photographed wearing Tom Ford sunglasses, and now you can get the look too, but don’t  be surprised if you find paparazzi following you wondering ‘Who’s that Girl?’

Rock chick style from the NME awards

The NME awards are one of the most important nights on the rock chick’s calendar. The usual suspects of Kate Moss, Alexa Chung and Pixie Geldof will never miss this night of rock and roll debauchery, and in terms of style, the only thing guaranteed is that you will see lots of gothic black. That doesn’t mean you won’t see some highly covetable outfits. Here are some of the key looks from the night.

Alexa wore this very pretty black mesh effect dress from Valentino, that was perfect in that it was girlie, but with the black mesh it still had an edge to it. However, with her hair the long and bushy, she is heading towards Claudia Winkleman territory.

Kate Moss kept her outfit simple and stylish, opting for an all black look that was lifted by a colour pop blazer. This look needs a closer look, the lovely blazer is flecked with silver which makes it a great evening cover up. And as for the yellow Chanel bag..I have sheer lust!

Florence Welch rocked two outfits on the night when she picked up two awards. She wore a very on-trend flower power trouser suit from Moschino, which I thought was a little bit Austin Powers, call me old fashioned but I would’ve preferred the jacket or the trousers, but not both. She also wore a heart-stopping black evening gown with lace sleeves, further endorsing that lace is another trend that just refuses to go away.
