Stylish Television: Emily In Paris Season 2
Season 2 of my favourite guilty pleasure is back, and it is as bright and frothy, and downright silly as ever. Yes I’m talking about Emily in Paris, the story of a fish out of water American, who, despite the fact that she cannot speak French, becomes a hit in French marketing, whilst also finding romance with a rather delectable French chef. After being left on a cliffhanger in series one, when Emily and Gabriel the chef finally got it on when he was about to leave Paris, only for him not to leave after finally finding funding for his dream restaurant, series two picks up with the fallout from these events, as Gabriel’s erstwhile girlfriend is also Emily’s best French friend Camille, so it is only a matter of time until the liaisons become common knowledge.
One of the main attractions of Emily in Paris is, of course, the fashion. I think it is the most talked about series since Sex and the City when it comes to the clothes the characters wear. Emily may be in Paris, but her style is fun and eclectic and not at all Parisian, it mixes colours and patterns like someone who has fallen into a dressing up box, but it totally seems to work, and some of her looks are just draw dropping, particularly the bow topped dress she wore for her birthday meal. Lily Collins, like SJP as Carrie Bradshaw, has the ability to pull off any look with her exquisite bone structure and gamine features and is definitely perfect as Emily.
Similarly, Emily’s flatmate Mindy has a wild flamboyant style that perfectly mirrors her exuberant personality with a range of zesty colours that make her a stand out in any crowd.
This season, as well as the very delectable Gabriel, there is also the gorgeous Englishman Alfie, who becomes Emily’s new love interest. Played by Lucien Laviscount, I love this new relationship, which is full of adorable chemistry and old style screwball wisecracks.
But there is still that spark with Gabriel, that will they, won’t they relationship that has been at the crux of the series since the very first episode, and is possibly part of the reason that the series has been commissioned for series 3 and 4. Which is great news for lovers of fashion, Paris and Emily.
