Style focus – Marina Diamandis
The great thing about British pop music is that quirky style Queen’s always emerge to add extra visual interest to those videos on heavy rotation on MTV. From punk Queens like Poly Styrene, to 80s legends Bananarama and more recent songstresses like Paloma Faith, Shingai Shoniwa, Amy Winehouse and Jessie J, British singers have shown a style and uniqueness that has made them quirky, unique and highly original. The latest lady to add into the mix is Marina Diamandis, also known as Marina and the Diamonds. When Marina first emerged I found her style to be a little bit too garish, full of wacky prints and body skimming catsuits. But…

Fashion Mommy loves…Barbara Hulanicki for George
One of the best High Street collaborations of recent times has been that between the legendary Biba founder Barbara Hulanicki and George at Asda. The collections have used elements of famous Biba prints and styles to create wonderfully modern and up-to-date pieces. And,of course, being from Asda, the price points are totally affordable. These are pieces that can add lustre to your wardrobe without breaking the bank. The new collection is another winner. Full of pretty prints like butterflies and bubbles, along with the trademark tribal designs, this is recognisably Hulanicki. One major plus point of this collection are the adorable skull printed wellies. These are just perfect for festival…

1960s style lust – Karen Gillan in We’ll take Manahattan
Last night saw the screening of the much-anticipated BBC4 drama ‘We’ll Take Manhattan’. This was the story of the photo shoot that shot 60s model Jean Shrimpton, aka ‘The Shrimp’ to fame, and changed the nature of fashion photography as we now it. The photographer who created this iconic work was of course David Bailey. Shrimpton and Bailey naturally fell in love and became one of the most iconic couples of all time. The programme was fabulous, with Doctor Who star Karen Gillan making a totally gorgeous Shrimpton. Now, Karen is no amateur in the style stakes, with an eclectic personal style that includes wearing rather clumpy shoes to the…

Miss Selfridge – Your one stop for Saturday night dresses.
I’ve just been looking through the new season look at Miss Selfridge and it is safe to say that if you need a super special dress for the weekend, you need to look no further. From glittering full length showstoppers, to vintage inspired designs and new variations on a little black dress, there are some really stunning designs in this collection, which look more high-end than High Street. Here are some of my hot picks from Miss Selfridge. This dress is very Balmain inspired, like a longer version of the dress that was worn by Emma Watson. Imagine walking into a Christmas party wearing this! Beautiful, and so sexy with…

Fred Perry release Amy Winehouse’s posthumous collection.
Fred Perry released the Autumn/Winter 2011 Amy Winehouse for Fred Perry collection on Monday. A statement on their site says that this is with the blessing of Amy’s family, and that royalties and fees from the collection will go to the soon to be established Amy Winehouse foundation. The collection is really poignant, because it is completely, absolutely Amy. You can almost picture her wearing the collection in publicity shots, so close is it to her personal style. This has elements of 1960s mods and ska – think Quadrophenia and Rude boys. The collection is black and white, featuring dog-tooth checks on jumpers, shirts and mini skirts. There are also…
