2016 Tony Awards – The best dressed

The Tony Awards are the night when achievement on Broadway is celebrated, and the 2016 ceremony had more than it’s fair share of Hollywood glamour. Beautiful film stars like Lupita Nyong’o, Rose Byrne and Saoirse Ronan joined supermodels Jourdan Dunn and Joan Smalls in walking the red carpet, and there were plenty of exquisite looks for fashion fans to savour.

If you are reading this post and want to know who won the awards, you are going to be disappointed. I have no clue as to what or who was nominated, or who the eventual winners were.  But what I do know is that there were some amazing dresses on display, and that this was one of the best red carpet shows this year. Top of the best dressed list was an incredibly pretty Jourdan Dunn who showed that pink is a lovely, romantic choice. Lupita, who never seems to disappoint, wore a candy coloured confetti creation that was a showstopper, whilst Claire Danes shows that a little black dress is always a great choice, and that minimalism is sometimes the best option.

Incidentally, I have to say that the backdrop for the Tony Awards official photographs of the celebrities was just stunning, how gorgeous is that rose background.

What did you think of the Tony’s dresses, do you have a favourite look? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Celebrity get the look featuring TOWIE, Michelle Dockery and Lana Del Rey

Here are some of the latest ways to get a celebrity look, featuring a host of TV and music stars, from Lauren Pope in Jaydah London jewellery, to a great version of Lana Del Rey’s Alberta Ferretti Cannes dress from Coast. We have cult favourite Love, as worn by  Jess Wright from The Only Way is Essex, whilst Stephanie Davis from Hollyoaks also looks great in the same label.

Here are some of the celeb looks that have been making magazine appearances  in recent weeks.

Sam Faiers wear AX Paris

Sam Faiers has been rocking quite a few pieces from AX Paris recently. This is a brand that she stocks in her Minnie’s boutique, and the label has quite a good variation of dresses lately that range from very pretty skater styles like the frothy cream and black kickout dress to the more rock chick styles complete with studs and metallic hardware.

Jessica Wright wears Love

The Love oversized jumper with the heart motif is a cult classic from Love, a style that has been worn by many celebs. The new Oxblood version is gorgeous, I love the striking deep red heart that is emblazoned on the design, and I think this is a good buy for Winter as it looks so good with skinny jeans and over leggings. Jess Wright dressed it down by adding trainers to the look, but I would love to see it toughened up with Chelsea boots.

Rochelle Wiseman wears Boohoo

The Heidi dress from Boohoo is such a pretty design, and the ever stylish Rochelle looked just fabulous in it. A bargain at just £20, don’t think that this sort of dress is just for summer, add opaque tights and a chunky arran knit to make this a great transitional outfit.

 Stephanie Davis wears Love

Stephanie Davis, who plays Sinead in Hollyoak is another starlet who has chosen a style from Love for a special occasion. This scuba cut out style has been worn by Sam Faiers and isn’t for the feint hearted, but the skirt is such a fabulous colour and style that you could wear this with a shirt over, tied at the waist, in the style of Olivia Palermo.

Jesy Nelson wears Love

This picture of Jesy Nelson from Little Mix just made me smile. Jesy was the girl who was such a target for internet trolls last year, but now she is just oozing with confidence and looks amazing. The Love dress is a total showstopper, and her hair and make-up is just flawless. Jesy’s glitter style dress is no longer available, but there is a great plain black version that would also look fabulous. Jesy’s look was completed by Jeffrey Campbell’s Vicious sandals, a real style statement that are surprisingly light and comfortable to wear.

Lauren Pope wears Jaydah London

A brand new and very hot jewellery label is Jaydah London. Lauren Pope is one of the first to discover this brand, and chose this gorgeous black cuff enamel bracelet which just makes such a fabulous contrast against her printed dress. Lauren was also wearing a matching enamel stretch type ring. I like the idea of matching a bracelet and a ring as your jewellery choices, rather than traditional necklace and earrings.

 Fearne Cotton in Sisley

I’m not usually a fan of Fearne Cotton’s style, I find it to be a little bit too twee and try hard. But I think she is tackling maternity style really well, and I particularly love this Sisley geometric print coat that she teamed with cute ankle boots and tights this week. Warm and stylish, this coat is a great buy for the cold winter that seems to be on the way.

Get the Look for less – Lana Del Rey

Coast have unveiled a fabulous selection of new evening gowns that have a distinct celebrity feel. First up is the Felicity gown with the beautiful ruffled effect that reminds me of the Alberta Ferretti gown that Lana Del Rey wore when she was at the Cannes film festival in May this year. This is the classic black gown, timeless, elegant and utterly stunning.

Get the look for less – Claire Danes

The beautiful Zelda gown is another style classic, and has the feel of the red dress that my current style crush Claire Danes wore to the 2009 Golden Globes award. This dress is the Christma ball dress, that rich red is serious Santa style.

Get the look for less – Michelle Dockery

Michelle Dockery chose a stunning Marc Jacobs dress for the recent Emmy awards, but yes, it could’ve done with the creases being steamed out. The Coast Benhaz dress has a similar style, but the chiffon fabric means that this dress should avoid those creases!

The Emmys – The best looks

Sunday saw the world of TV’s most glittering night, as the most glamorous stars of the small screen (and a few megastars of the big screen too) turned out for the Emmy Awards. A very hot and humid night saw a fair few fashion disasters, and some seriously dodgy hair don’ts,, but there were also some absolutely dazzling dresses on display, from both new and old stars alike.

Here are my picks, dresses that made me swoon.

Nicole Kidman chose a column dress with sequin detail from Antonio Berardi. Now I adore this dress for the simplicity of the lines, and the fabulous use of blue shades. That said, on the evening, I couldn’t help but tweet that it also reminded me of a swimming pool mosaic, something you might see in the bottom of an outdoor pool in Greece. Still so pretty though.

Kelly Osbourne has been showing some serious style credentials lately, and this violet Zac Posen dress with matching hair is another winner. The dress just fits like a glove, and the hair adds that little bit of fun which saves this look from being too old for her. Gorgeous!

Lucy Lui went for something totally unique on the Red Carpet. Her futuristic, space age dress looked like she had been sewn into it, the silver shade was super striking, and she kept accessories to a minimum, with the pop of red on her small box bag being a genius touch.

Tina Fey used to make so many worst dressed lists, but not any more. She chose a chic column dress by Vivienne Westwood which was such an elegant choice. I loved the plum colour, and the brocade style bustline which just adds a touch of the dramatic to the dress. Again, hair and accessories were kept simple, the perfect choice for this dress.

Downton Abbey’s Joanne Froggatt has come such a long way from Coronation Street. She looked simply amazing flying the flag for British style in another dress from Vivienne Westwood. I loved the nude/mink shade, the pretty draping and the soft tie waist. This dress was so much better than Michelle Dockery’s who wore an ill fitting, creased monstrosity from Louis Vuitton.

Claire Danes was one of the big winners on the night, and the heavily pregnant star also won in the style stakes too with her choice of canary yellow Lanvin. With it’s strapless, loose silhouette and cool 1970s vibe, this was a really good choice for the mom-to-be and she looked just glowing (a cliche I know, but true all the same!).

Julianne Hough looked like a beautiful mermaid in her Georges Hobeika dress dress. The gorgeous shades of blue and the curved fantail detail made this dress look like an aquatic dream. But the less said the better about the sloppy hair…

The fabulous Julianna Margulies very rarely gets it wrong on the red carpet, and her stunning choice of Giambattista Valli’s floral gown was inspired. I loved how fresh and original this looked and I loved that it had pockets in it! This reminded me of a early 1960s style print, whilst it also had shades of Monet in those beautiful florals and colours. A fantastic dress.

It was quite a good night for Vivienne Westwood, who dressed so many of the stars. Kerry Washington looked incredible in this shimmering nude/pink Westwood gown which has such a fantastic shape and is magnificent in its elegance. Again the key to this look is keeping everything else simple.

And last, but certainly never least, there was the incredible, pneumatic Christina Hendricks, who looked just incredible in a dress that she herself described as silver, but I think looked more oyster in colour. I thought Christina looked just like Jayne Mansfield in a red wig, and this Christian Siriano dress looked made for her figure. The art deco clutch she was carrying was probably my favourite accessory of the night too!
