Oscars 2015 – My favourite looks

The most glittering night on the Awards calendar came and went with a whimper last night. The Oscars used to always be the ceremony where you were promised something wonderful and something wacky, and interesting night of true fashion and memorable looks that would stay in the fashion memory long after who had actually won had faded. But that was then.

The best way to sum up this year’s ceremony choices would be ‘safe’. There were plenty of ‘nice’ dresses, with both nominees and presenters looking elegant and pretty on the red carpet. My favourite looks included the uber glamorous Margot Robbie in a YSL dress that made her look like a modern day Charlotte Rampling, complete with vampy lips and a statement necklace. Rosamund Pike also looked spectacular in red Givenchy. She has had a bad award season in my view, and this was the dress I’d been longing for her to wear.

There was a distinct lack of colour on the red carpet, but some ladies did approach it in a series of successful looks. I loved Dakota Johnson in red YSL, it was a gorgeous dress, and I particularly loved the  silver shoulder detail. Emma Stone divided opinions in Elie Saab, with some saying the dress was too old for her, and I can see Angelina opting for this one, but the colour and beading was superb, and I love anything with a low back.

Here are a selection of the dresses that I enjoyed on the night – with a couple that I sort of liked, including Jennifer Lopez, who wore a spectacular Elie Saab gown that I would’ve loved in any colour other than the dishwater she chose, and Lady Gaga, whose dress I loved – but what’s with the washing up gloves.

Whose look did you love/hate at the 2015 Oscars?

Celebrity Fashion special featuring Nicole Scherzinger, Lydia Bright and Lucy Kite

We have a whole list of super stylish ladies on the blog today, wearing some of the most covetable looks around at this moment. The great news is that many of the looks come direct from the High Street. We have Kylie Jenner in Boohoo boutique, showing us that boucle is actually the perfect material for bikers jackets (who’d have thought it?), whilst X Factor’s Melanie Masson is showing off a bargain dress from Ruby Rocks that just fits her to perfection and is so bright and colourful that it is the perfect choice for Spring.

Today I am also taking a look at the gorgeous dress range from stylish TOWIE star Lydia Bright,  featuring four dresses which are simply gorgeous in their retro designs and pretty summer colours, and are now available at New Look. The elegant actress Rosamund Pike shows why she is the perfect face of LK Bennett as she shows off some of the key pieces from the brand, whilst Nicole Scherzinger wears not one, but two pieces from Missguided, including a slinky catsuit worn for her performance at GAY recently, both priced at under £40.

And finally, the very lovely TV presenter and weather girl Lucy Kite, shows of a wonderful dress from new designer duo Cecily. The ladies behind Cecily, Louise and Sarah, sum up my philosphy of dressing quite perfectly.  ” We think our dresses will appeal to every lady in the land, who:  hates fuss, but loves beautiful detail, hates body-con, loves tailored heaven, hates overdone, but loves adaptable simplicity.” I think they are going to go far!

Rosamund Pike shines for LK Bennett

That very beautiful English Rose, actress Rosamund Pike, has become the face of LK Bennett, and I think she is just the perfect choice. LK Bennett is full of classic, stylish and elegant pieces, and there is no doubt all those words could also be used to describe the actress who has been able to show versatility in a career that has taken her from being a Bond girl (Die another Day), to period drama (a wonderfully romantic Jane Bennett in Joe Wright’s Sense and Sensibility), and the both tragic and comic Helen in one of my favourite films – ‘An Education’.

The new LK Bennett collection is all about versatile and relaxed, working girl separates. There are crisply tailored shirts that are vamped up by being worn with the sexiest leather pencil skirt, pretty floaty summer skirts teamed with silk knit cardigans in a very glamorous, Grace Kelly style, and Chanel style, Matador shaped cardigans and cigarette pants that ooze sophistication and up glamour.

Rosamund says “I think that L.K.Bennett is the perfect brand for the working woman because it gives you that ability to feel dressed and polished without feeling overdone and I think that is the key to making you feel good and giving you confidence. It gives you freedom to play and that’s what makes clothes exciting.”

A match made in Fashion Heaven – the modern Hitchcock Blonde merged with the modern British affordable luxury brand. A perfect start to 2013.
