The Spring drop from Barbara Hulanicki for George at Asda is in stores now. The usual mixture of gorgeous prints, this season we also see the introduction of a new dress shape in the form of the shirt dress, available in both plain and print form. Selfridges – New Season Picks, including some of Duchess Kate’s favourite designers
With Christmas now just a distant memory, it seems the time is right to look at what the designers have in store for us for these early days of 2013 (and doesn’t it still feel strange to be typing that?). A trip to Selfridges shows that there is a lot to savour from some of our favourite designers. Erdem continues the quest for the perfect lace dress with the beautiful cappuccino lace of the Anna dress, whilst elsewhere there is an awful lot of blue to enjoy, in all shades, from the bright and vibrant, to the most powdery pastel shades. Victoria Beckham S/S 13 – good, but not great.
The latest collection from Victoria Beckham proved to be a further departure from the Roland Mouret style designs that made her name. Sure, there are some form fitting gowns, but these owe more to the minimalist, lingerie style designs of Calvin Klein than to the hourglass fifties silhouette of Mouret. I have to say I was a little disappointed by this collection on the whole. The form fitting lingerie style dresses look a little dated, and a little cheap, whilst the short a-line skirts and crisp shirts just got me thinking ‘so what’.
