Reviewed – Joules Milford Boys Quilted Jacket

I was recently approached by Elfin Childrenswear to see if I would be interested in reviewing a product from their impressive range of children’s clothes. I was certainly intrigued to find out more about the company, having never heard of it before, and was interested to browse through the range to see what I would find, particularly to suit an already fashion aware 4-year-old.

Elfin is one of the leading children’s wear stockists in the North East, having been established in 2001. It stocks high quality children’s clothing from names like Levis, Kenzo, Timberland and Joules. These are the sort of clothes that look great and wear well, and are also great gifts for special occasions. I was spoilt for choice when browsing through the ranges, but then fell totally in love with one item in particular.

The item I chose was the gorgeous Jnr Milford Quilted Jacket from Joules, in age 4 years. I have always been a fan of the Barbour style country look, and this had country heritage style in spades, with a brown corduroy collar that made a nice contrast to the navy padded jacket. The jacket had traditional waterproof quilting, and was also padded to add extra warmth – something that really attracted me with the terrible Spring temperatures we have been experiencing. I also liked the heritage look of the checked lining – a touch that added a real luxury feel to this item.

There were other details about this jacket that I was really impressed with. As well as a zip fastening, this jacket also has popper fastenings too. Joe is always very quick to throw off his coat at every occasion, so the zip and popper detailing slows down this process somewhat, meaning there is less chance of the coat ending up on the ground at the local park . I also like the pockets, great for storing tissue when your child has a cold (Joe seems to have one all the time at present).

The jacket is an excellent fit, being true to size. Another bonus is that Joe totally loved it. I’ve noticed recently that he really wants to be more grown up in his clothes choices, often asking to wear the same as dad – so this fits the bill (although it is dad who seems to want to copy Joe with this jacket.). We were going to see Walking with Dinosaurs and Joe was desperate to wear the coat straight away, showing it off to his cousin Lia with pride.

I have been totally impressed with this Joules jacket. It looks great, is waterproof, and also wipes clean. It is warm and cosy, and Joe likes it too. What more could you ask for?

Monochrome chic from Evans

Despite the fact that I am one of the greatest advocates of colour in your wardrobe, there is something undeniably chic about monochrome. Classic black and white will always be a wardrobe staple, something that is perfect for you work outfits, glamorous for important occasions like a day at the races, a family wedding or a black tie event.

Timeless and classic, black and white outfits stay in the wardrobe forever, the colour combo never goes out of style and will always be a fashion failsafe. This season, Evans have made monochrome a key part of its Spring/Summer collections, and have shown its versatility. There are cute, fun prints with lovehearts and polka dots, striped tunics a la Alexa Chung, and abstract prints from Live Unlimited. Unlimited could be a perfect word to describe the endless possibilities of monochrome too.

AX Paris for a night at the Dinosaurs

You may have noticed that each month I bring you a review of an item from the great plus size range from AX Paris, AX Curve. When I was first approached by AX Paris I was a little unsure about reviewing items from the range, I loved the collection, but wondered whether it would prove to be a little too young for me. I couldn’t have been further from the truth. AX Curve has proved to be gorgeous quality, totally wearable, and something that is versatile enough to span across the age groups. I have become a huge fan.

The item I chose to review this month was the long sleeve diamante cuff smock in the nude shade. I thought that this would be the perfect thing to wear over jeans, adding a spring like feel with the pretty colour and diamante detail, but still with sleeves for this unsettled weather we are currently calling Spring.

The first thing to say about this item is that I would definitely size down. I had already gone down one dress size in this brand, but could’ve ordered a size smaller still, Ax Curve is very generous with it’s sizing. I did try the smock with jeans, but unless the jeans are super skinny  I think this item is best worn with leggings, or even with bare legs come the warmer weather. It has a lovely 1960s, luxe hippy/boho feel to it and  doesn’t really need any real jewellery accessories, with both the collar and cuffs are really prettily beaded.

I went to watch the Walking with Dinosaurs show at the Birmingham NIA on Thursday night and wore the smock for this event. I teamed it with brown leggings, and suede ultra- wedges and I was really pleased with this look. The only accessory I added was a very old animal print and shimmer scarf that I think was a nice contrast to the delicate nude shade.

Gorgeous Cuff detail

This is a really lovely item that would be a great addition to any wardrobe. The delicate floatiness and pretty detailing make this a great item for a night out, but it could be dressed down by adding super skinny jeans, a look I’m definitely going to try soon.  This smock is also available in black, for an equally gorgeous, and dramatically gothic look.
