Lily Allen weds!
This Saturday saw the wedding of Lily Allen and Sam Cooper, and the surprise but heart warming news that Lily is more than 12 weeks pregnant. All eyes were on the dress, as Lily is known as a vintage aficionado, who has here own vintage clothes shop, Lucy in Disguise, that she co-runs with sister Sarah, and has recently launched her own vintage-inspired line to be sold through Harvey Nichols. Lily is also a sometime muse of Karl Lagerfeld of Chanel, so he was another possible designer name in the frame. As it was, Lily plumped for an exquisite 1920s style dress by French designer Delphine Manivet, that owed something in style…

Alexander McQueen at Paris Fashion Week-Fit for a Princess?
The Alexander McQueen A/W 2011 show at Paris Fashion week was even more anticipated than usual, following frenzied speculation that Sarah Burton may be the designer of the wedding dress of the decade. Although there had been denials by the House of McQueen, news that Vogue editor Alexandra Schulman had personally recommended that Kate Middleton wear a dress by Burton adds weight to the speculation about who will design that dress. But what of the new collection? The excited buzz all over Twitter was that there was quite a lot of white in this collection. Beautiful evening dresses with lots of ruffles and feathers evoking images of romance and opulence…

Designer Vintage Bridal Show – Oh! To be a bride…Pt 3.
I was totally enthralled with the exhibitors at the Designer vintage wedding show – the beautiful dresses, exquisite flowers, amazing jewellery and millinery, so I now took a little bit of time to do some people watching. The glamorous brides-to-be had dressed up for the occasion with acres of vintage lace, corsages, glittering beaded headbands and pearls on display. There were 50s style polka dots and prints, 1940s era chintz floral prints, nipped in waistbands, fake fur coats and platform heeled shoes, all worn with the excited glow only a prospective bride can have. There was the dulcet tones of Frank Sinatra drifting across the main hall. This sound was…

Why a wedding is a fashion show…with the aisle as your catwalk.
You m ay fool yourself into believing it is all about the exchange of vows, a declaration of your love for another person, but don’t be fooled too easily, A wedding is nothing more than an almighty fashion show, with the aisle your own personal catwalk, a veritable red carpet on which to strut your stuff! My only sister got married on Saturday. After months of fashion planning, the day finally arrived. And it was truly wonderful. But as it ended, I couldn’t help but ponder how important clothes, fashion and style had been to the whole occasion. From the warm up hen weekends of copious outfits and themes, to…

Catherine Walker remembered.
On Thursday I went to the V&A to see the Grace Kelly exhibition. After spending an hour admiring Grace’s style, we exited to the main costume exhibition. One dress made us all gasp. For there, in all its glory, was the Princess Diana ‘Elvis’ dress, the stunning off white gem encrusted strapless dress, with short sleeved jacket with the upturned collar. This was the dress that the Franklin Mint had donated to the museum in 2005/6, the dress that had raised the most money when Diana had held her famous dress Auction. The dress was instantly recogniseable to all, one of Diana’s most famous, most successful looks. And yet its…
