The Emmys Good looks/bad looks
Last night was the most important night in television for Americans. It was the star studded Emmy awards. I stayed up into the early hours discussing the key looks with some of my favourite twitter ladies, Natalie from Fashion Blags and LuAnne from Weesha’s World and really enjoyed the red carpet event, which was pretty stylish in all honesty.
The Emmys are not like the BAFTAS. At the BAFTAS, despite the thespian luvvies who make up most of the audience, you can still rely on a reality television star to wear something totally inappropriate, or just plain wrong. And, if that doesn’t happen, you always have the ever wacky Helen Bonham Carter wearing odd shoes or something mismatched and quirky. The Emmys last night were a much more tame affair, and, if nothing really shocked, nothing truly stunned either.
But here are some of the dresses I did like on the night. Whose look did you rate?
Claire Danes in Armani
Claire went for Armani Prive and looked undeniably gorgeous. The skirt was just exquisite, and only someone with her slim, tiny frame could carry off this rather daring bodice. As for the chic bobbed hair, I hope it’s here to stay.
Sofia Vergara
Total bombshell. Sofia lives by the adage ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’, and this Vera Wang dress is just classic Sofia, from the amazing cleavage to the fishtail.
Zooey Deschanel
She is usually a kooky queen of the red carpet, but in this beautiful J Mendel dress, Zooey channeled the sophistication of the Jackie Kennedy era. Her ‘big hair’ was also uber glam.
A crop top and long skirt shouldn’t be a red carpet look. But that is (sort of) what Rose Byrne was wearing. Her Calvin Klein pink dress is just the right side of daring, and with her retro waves and minimal accessories, I think she looks sensational.
Kerry Washington
The Marchesa dress worn by Kerry Washington was just beautiful, however I do have a few reservations about it, namely that it looks like the most exquisite wedding dress ever. In white, and with the lovely floral detail, it was probably a little too bridal for the red carpet.
Kelly Osbourne
Kelly Osbourne continues to impress with with her sartorial choices, and this red Jenny Packham dress was another winning look. A great colour choice, if a little clashing with the carpet, and the draping Grecian detail was great on her figure.
Guiliana Rancic
Fashion Police presenter Guiliana is a regular at these sorts of events, but I don’t ever think I’ve seen her look as good as this. She was totally sensational in Mikael D, totally upstaging a lot of the stars she was there to interview.
Christina Hendricks
Inspired by John Singer Sargent’s Madame X painting, I think the sometimes hit and miss Christina Hendricks looked the best she has ever looked. Classic black, classic hourglass, classic Christina.
Connie Britton
Something so unusual from the Nashville star, this velvet and embroidered gown from Naeem Khan was gorgeous in the detail. The unusual colour also stood out against the sea of pastel shades.
And a few I didn’t like….
Cat Deeley – Why oh why did you chose this? What is going on in the hip department???? The bottom of this skirt reminds me of a screwdriver.
January Jones is too much of a siren to be wearing such a soft and pretty look. I do like the skirt of her Givenchy dress, but the bodice resembles a bandage, and the colour should be remained dirty pink.
Heidi Klum…words fail me. If Versace designed neck braces.
Julianne Hough, put some clothes on. This looks like a swimsuit with a rather glittery beach cover-up added.
I absolutely love Lena Dunham, and ‘Girls’ is genius. So I just wish someone would help her to find a dress that actually flattered and fit her. This may be Prada, but it is pretty horrendous.
And then we get to the worst of the worst, as Joan would put it, the fash hoe of the night, ladies and gentlemen I give you Zosia Mamet and her PVC tit tape dress. Words again fail me…is this some sort of statement on pornography? Is she censoring her own boobs? Was she wearing that as a Zorro mask and it slipped? Questions, questions, questions…

Calvin Klein pink dress was the best. I loved it x

I just love Sofia Vergara, regardless. So beautiful, and always looks tremendous.

Agree with all of your ‘love’ looks – but poor Lena Dunham, just totally the wrong dress for her shape and height – what I wouldn’t give to work with her!
