Celebrity style special featuring Holly Willoughby, Tess Daly, Heidi Klum and The Wanted

A new month means a new look to what some of our favourite celebrities have been wearing over the past few weeks. During that time Spring has sprung with some unusually gorgeous weather, although we now seem to be living in the middle of a dust bowl! The warm weather has introduced some gorgeous Spring looks, including Holly Willoughby continuing her love of polka dots in a lovely touch of Wallis and Lucy Mecklenberg introducing her gorgeous beach attire in Mya Blue Luxe (and just how beautiful is that silk hand painted top I ask you).

The Towie ladies are in fine form to be honest, and seem to be in love with the Gorgeous Couture Paige jumpsuit, with Sam Faiers and Jess Wright showing off two of the colours it is available in. Tess Daly shows off another glorious look from Gorgeous Couture in the Robyn Maxi dress – a totally stunning piece.

I have also featured a stunning dress worn by Alexandra Burke from German designer Kilian Kerner. The Kilian Kerner range has recently been a new addition to House of Fraser, so I thought this was the perfect time to showcase some affordable designer looks on Fashion-Mommy. There are also a couple of get the celebrity looks, this month featuring Heidi Klum and indie darling Shailene Woodley.

Finally, I am most excited to write about the rise and rise of a very special friend. Birmingham fashionista’s have long since flocked to Terry Eleftheriou and his jewellery and accessory company Terry Terry, and now it seems that the world of showbiz are also beginning to take notice. This week, The Wanted sported Terry Terry gemset bracelets during their sell out concert in Nottingham – a very proud moment for a top bloke.

The Emmys Good looks/bad looks

Last night was the most important night in television for Americans. It was the star studded Emmy awards. I stayed up into the early hours discussing the key looks with some of my favourite twitter ladies, Natalie from Fashion Blags  and LuAnne from Weesha’s World and really enjoyed the red carpet event, which was pretty stylish in all honesty.

The Emmys are not like the BAFTAS.  At the BAFTAS, despite the thespian luvvies who make up most of the audience, you can still rely on a reality television star to wear something totally inappropriate, or just plain wrong. And, if that doesn’t happen, you always have the ever wacky Helen Bonham Carter wearing odd shoes or something mismatched and quirky. The Emmys last night were a much more tame affair, and, if nothing really shocked, nothing truly stunned either.

But here are some of the dresses I did like on the night. Whose look did you rate?

Claire Danes in Armani

Claire went for Armani Prive and looked undeniably gorgeous. The skirt was just exquisite, and only someone with her slim, tiny frame could carry off this rather daring bodice. As for the chic bobbed hair, I hope it’s here to stay.

claire-danes

Sofia Vergara

Total bombshell. Sofia lives by the adage ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’, and this Vera Wang dress is just classic Sofia, from the amazing cleavage to the fishtail.

sofia-vergara

Zooey Deschanel

She is usually a kooky queen of the red carpet, but in this beautiful J Mendel dress, Zooey channeled the sophistication of  the Jackie Kennedy era. Her ‘big hair’ was also uber glam.

zooey-deschanelRose Byrne

A crop top and long skirt shouldn’t be a red carpet look. But that is (sort of) what Rose Byrne was wearing. Her Calvin Klein pink dress is just the right side of daring, and with her retro waves and minimal accessories, I think she looks sensational.

rose-byrne

Kerry Washington

The Marchesa dress worn by Kerry Washington was just beautiful, however I do have a few reservations about it, namely that it looks like the most exquisite wedding dress ever.  In white, and with the lovely floral detail, it was probably a little too bridal for the red carpet.

Kerry-Washington

Kelly Osbourne

Kelly Osbourne continues to impress with with her sartorial choices, and this red Jenny Packham dress was another winning look. A great colour choice, if a little clashing with the carpet, and the draping Grecian detail was great on her figure.

Kelly-Osbourne

Guiliana Rancic

Fashion Police presenter Guiliana is a regular at these sorts of events, but I don’t ever think I’ve seen her look as good as this. She was totally sensational in Mikael D, totally upstaging a lot of the stars she was there to interview.

giuliana-rancic

Christina Hendricks

Inspired by John Singer Sargent’s Madame X painting, I think the sometimes hit and miss Christina Hendricks looked the best she has ever looked. Classic black, classic hourglass, classic Christina.

christina-hendricks

Connie Britton

Something so unusual from the Nashville star, this velvet and embroidered gown from Naeem Khan was gorgeous in the detail. The unusual colour also stood out against the sea of pastel shades.

connie-britton

And a few I didn’t like….

Cat Deeley – Why oh why did you chose this? What is going on in the hip department???? The bottom of this skirt reminds me of a screwdriver.

cat-deeley

January Jones is too much of a siren to be wearing such a soft and pretty look. I do like the skirt of her Givenchy dress, but the bodice resembles a bandage, and the colour should be remained dirty pink.

january-jones

Heidi Klum…words fail me. If Versace designed neck braces.

heidi-klum

Julianne Hough, put some clothes on. This looks like a swimsuit with a rather glittery beach cover-up added.

julianne-hough-derek-hough

I absolutely love Lena Dunham, and ‘Girls’ is genius. So I just wish someone would help her to find a dress that actually flattered and fit her. This may be Prada, but it is pretty horrendous.

lena-dunham

And then we get to the worst of the worst, as Joan would put it, the fash hoe of the night, ladies and gentlemen I give you Zosia Mamet and her PVC tit tape dress. Words again fail me…is this some sort of statement on pornography? Is she censoring her own boobs? Was she wearing that as a Zorro mask and it slipped? Questions, questions, questions…

Why don’t you have a stylish October. (updated)

America's Next Top Model logo

Winter;s definitely on its way, temperatures are dropping and the nights are drawing in. So here are my hints and tips for making October a super stylish fashionista month.

  • Check out the fab 1960’s fashions are worn by the super stylish cast of the new Brit Flick ‘Made in Dagenham‘, Decide whether you are going to channel cute Jaime Winstone or chic Rosamund Pike. Released 1st October.
  • Get ready for the super Saturday night fash-off between Cheryl Cole and the reining champion Danni Minogue as X Factor goes live this month. If that’s not your thing, you could turn to BBC and admire the ever stylish Tess Daley and the beautiful Alesha Dixon as Strictly Come Dancing makes a welcome return.
  • Go and see the amazing Ballet Russes exhibition at the V&A this month. If you can’t get to London, at least check out the amazing range of complimentary items in the V&A online shop. I’ve got my eye on a stunning brooch.

    stunning pin from the V&A.

    • Visit a new store. If you’re in Wednesbury on Thursday 7th October, get yourself along to the Gallagher Retail Park for the opening of a new TK Maxx superstore. There are free goodie bags for the first 500 people through the doors, along with £10 vouchers. In addition, there are free complimentary massages from the 5 minute angels.
    • Pre-order your copy of Luella Bartley‘s English style book from Amazon.co.uk. The inimitable Luella casts her eye over all things English in this much-anticipated book.
    • Meet a fashion star. If you happen to be in Birmingham this October, you could get to meet a fully fledged fashion star at not one, but two book signings. Nigel Barker, judge on America’s Next Top Model and photographer, will be signing copies of his new book in Selfridges, The Bullring, on Wednesday 6th October between 6pm-7pm, whilst fashionista’s favourite Gok Wan will be in WH Smiths signing copies of his new autobiography on Saturday 16th October from 12.30pm.
    • Chanel true Hollywood style and host your own Halloween party on the 31st. However, take your style keys from Kate Moss, who wore a glamorous lace dress and top hat when attending a Halloween bash with DJ Nellee Hooper, rather than looking towards the crazy snake costume worn by Heidi Klum. Alternatively, go and see Wicked and be truly amazed.
    • Visit the ‘world of Manolo’, ground floor at Liberty, Regent Street, London and delve into a fabulous world of Manolo Blahnik, with a range of fabulous shoes and Liberty printed fabrics and scarves. You could meet the shoe legend himself if you are around on Thursday 21st Oct at 6pm, as he will be in store signing copies of his new book.
    • Pre order ‘The Fashion File’, the new book by Mad Men designer Janie Bryant and tap into the fabulous fashions of Joan and Betty Draper. (released 25th October).
    • Try to catch fab documentary ‘The Curse of the Hope Diamond’ this month and find out that diamonds are not always a girls best friend.
    • Check out Fashion-mommy on the radio. Fashion-mommy will be having a chat with Joanne Malin from Radio WM on Mornings with Joanne Malin on the 19th October at 10.35am, hope you all listen in!
    • Pay a visit to NEWLIFE and check out their daily deals this month. Every day has a special promotion where you will save even more cash, whilst helping an important and worthwhile cause. (Charity superstore – Hemlock Way, Cannock.)

If you have any more ideas for ways to have a fab October, please leave a comment and I will add them to the list.
