The Wonderful World of Shoes

I have a slight obsession with shoes! Ok, scratch that, I have an enormous obsession with shoes. I just love beautiful footwear, and it is the one thing that I find really hard to resist, even when I’m on a spending ban. Trying to pass a shoe shop, particularly when there is a sale on, is the equivalent of King Midas bypassing the Jewellery Quarter – it’s just not going to happen.

I must have two hundred pairs by now, from vintage pieces from Bally and Salvatore Ferragamo (charity shop finds), to designer pairs from Westwood and Marc Jacobs. I love high street brands too, and find all my summer flip flops in Primark for a couple of pounds. My shoes do actually range from the sublime to the ridiculous, via everything else in between, and I even sustained a shoe related injury when I caught a heel in a car seatbelt and broke 3 bones in my foot!

Jones Bootmaker have recently put together a really fun and informative history of shoes which they have traced back to Ancient Egypt and then tracked all the way to the present. It is full of fun facts about your favourite styles of footwear, and if you ever needed another reason to be glad you didn’t live in 18th Century France at the time of the revolution, (other than the fact that there was an awful lot of heading loping off going on), the fact that high heels were banned may be the absolute tipping point.

Enjoy!
