TM Lewin – the day dress sorted.

Question. You’re off shopping for a new dress. Not a dress for a special occasion or an event, but a dress that would be smart enough to be suitable for work in Summer, or could take you to sport’s day at the kid’s school. Where would be the first place you would look? I’m taking a wild stab in the dark here, but am guessing that the your first port of call wouldn’t be TM Lewin, best known to most of us as the place to find the perfect work-shirts for both men and women. But you would be missing out if you didn’t pay TM Lewin a visit, for they have added some really brilliant day dresses that are strong in design and colour.

I was recently sent the Samantha wrap dress by TM Lewin, and have to admit to being totally shocked that this Diane Von Furstenberg influenced dress was from a brand I most associated with shirts and ties. A geometric print dress, in a glorious lime, white and black print, the Samantha dress is a classic faux wrap style that is very easy to wear, and yet still so chic.

The dress has a wonderful shape, with ruching on the faux wrap which is great if you consider your tummy to be your problem area. The sleeves are very slightly capped but they are not tight so that they cut off the upper arm, but instead make a slight point on the shoulder. The dress has a deep v neckline due to the wrap style, but again, it is not too revealing – I often wear a brooch or a camisole under wrap dresses but this does not need one.

The fabric contains 5% elastane. This gives it a comfortable stretch and helps the dress to keep its fab shape. I also love that this fabric is fully lined – no see-thru bits to keep you blushing.

DSCN7793[1]I teamed my dress with a great 70s style leather sandal from Clarks. The Popple has a wooden heel and lovely strap detail, and I got it in a lovely tan colour. The sandal also comes in a black version, and a different version with more straps (that one is called the Popple Rumba). I love these sorts of retro sandals which are just that little bit dressier than a normal flat flip-flop or toe post design, and can therefore be suitable for work as well as the weekend. I wore this outfit for a day spent in my son’s school watching sports day and a special assembly and felt cool and comfortable, but still smart enough for the occasion.
