My next review in my ‘life begins at 40’ series is the dress I actually wore for my birthday celebrations yesterday. It was gifted by one of my favourite brands, Wallis, and came in a stunning deep blue shade that my mom has long exclaimed to be ‘my colour’.
The blue lace shift dress is a gorgeously vibrant 60s style frock. It has a double layer effect, with a sort of crocheted lace top layer, and then a stretchy block underlayer. With no buttons or zips, this is a style you simply put over your head, and the nature of the fabric means no ironing is required – making this a great dress to pop in your holiday suitcase. The colour is stunning, a really vibrant, showy blue that simply pops and would look great teamed with yellow, orange or even green accessories for the perfect colour clash look.
This dress is super versatile. I wore this for a Father’s Day/birthday meal, and added yellow heeled sandals and a gold/blue necklace to complete the outfit, but I am planning to wear this on holiday with some toe post sandals which I think will look equally as good due to the simple, chic nature of the dress. I also think the deep shade of blue means this dress will also look great with opaque tights and shoe boots when summer turns to autumn. A denim jacket or blazer would also team well with this dress for evenings or chillier days.
I totally love this dress in the ‘deeper shade of blue’, and will be wearing it a lot this summer. Wallis currently have this dress in white and coral, and also have a very similar style that has the difference of an embellished neckline. I have featured these styles below. I have also added a couple of birthday snaps of the dress that show the lovely detail around the shoulders and neckline.
