Reviewed – Navy Lace Shift Dress from Kaliko

Last Thursday saw one of the most swish, stylish events in the Midlands fashion calender. The Harvey Nichols fashion show is always full of fashion, fizz and supremely stylish looks – an event where everyone dresses to impress. I was a little stumped for what to wear for this particular show as it was taking place in a specially constructed space in the Mailbox car park, so I was worried it might be a little cold, and I also wanted something bright to stand out amongst the grey and concrete. Luckily, Kaliko had the perfect dress. Kaliko is part of the Jacques Vert group, (along with Planet, Precis Petite and…

The Jacques Vert Group Coatwalk for MacMillan Cancer Support

Saturday October 4th will see well dressed women donning their best coats and taking part in the 2nd annual ‘Coatwalk’ to raise money for MacMillan Cancer Support. The brainchild of the Jacques Vert group, Coatwalk combines a 3km walk around London’s St James’s Park, with a glamorous fashion show showcasing the Coatwalk collection. This year, the Coatwalk event is being hosted by Natasha Kaplinsky. The event will start with the walk at 12pm. Following the walk, participants will be treated to afternoon tea refreshments at One Great George Street, a stunning Grade II listed building at the heart of Westminster. The finale of the day is a fabulous fashion show…

Reviewed – Retro Shoes from Naturalizer

When I was a little girl, there was always something a little bit risque about red shoes. They had an edge of danger, and of glamour and beauty. From Norma Shearer dancing her heart out in The Red Shoes, to David Bowie telling us to put on our red shoes and dance the blues, red shoes were grown up, graceful and sexy. I thought that then, and still believe it to be true now. When I was asked if I wanted to review a pair of Naturalizer shoes c/o Lotus, I was instantly drawn to the 1940s style L’Ulrich design. This pair of Mary Janes have a patent toe and…

The Autumn Collection from Phase Eight

The Autumn collections are coming thick and fast, and this Saturday I’ve decided to turn my attention to the fabulous new collection from one of my favourite High Street brands, Phase Eight. Phase Eight can always be relied on for bringing class and elegance to the table. They understand the need for dresses with sleeves, always have lengths which are not thigh revealing, and have designs that step some distance away from what the rest of the High Street is reveling in. They also take cues from the decades of fashion that I love, the bias cut evening dresses from the 1930s in their Collection 8 range, and the full…

    Laura Ashley New Season picks

For my latest look towards the upcoming Autumn/Winter season, I decided to turn to an iconic British brand, Laura Ashley. Laura Ashley first came to prominence in the 1960s, but it was the famous throwback styles of the 1970s, the dairy maid, Edwardian style cotton maxi dresses in cream and white, that really shot the brand to fashion immortality. The early 1970s was a time of fashion reflection, with the film ‘Picnic at Hanging Rock’ being very influential on the style of the era. Laura Ashley’s innocent look was perfectly evocative of the period the film was set in. Laura Ashley died in 1985, but her name lives on, with…
