Pai skincare event at John Lewis, Birmingham
Lat week I attended a very informative and interesting beauty event at John Lewis at Grand Central Birmingham. Taking place in the &Beauty department at the store, the Pai Skincare event was a godsend to anyone who experiences less than perfect skin. Pai founder Sarah Brown, who founded the brand after suffering from adult skin problems, shared her wisdom and findings on how we can get the balance right when it comes to our skin. Understanding our skin Sarah explained that in order to get perfect skin we need to understand our skin better, and this can be achieved by looking at the food we eat, the products we use,…

The 39 Steps is a laugh a minute at the Birmingham Rep
The classic John Buchan novel that became a classic Hitchcock film is also a play, or maybe that should be amended to a farce or slapstick comedy. The 39 Steps opened at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre last night, and had the audience crying with laughter. Using a brilliant ensemble cast of just 4, and with hilarious one-liners and physical comedy to rival the silent movie greats Harold Lloyd and Charlie Chaplin, The 39 Nine Steps is the most fun you can have in less than 2 hours. The Hitchcock version of the book is a taught thriller filled with tension and menace, but the play is a totally different proposition,…

Strada Kids Party at the Birmingham Mailbox
Half term week had a special treat for Joe and I when we were invited to a special party at Strada in the Birmingham Mailbox. It was a lot of fun, with pizza making and activity packs for the children, and Prosecco and fine food for the adults. The children also got the chance to try dishes from the Strada Squad menu, a menu that has been specially approved by a panel of children acting as taste testers. The day started with the pizza making session. Pizza bases and a range of toppings were provided and the children all had great fun designing their own pizza. Joe was really happy…

Ashton Double bill sparkles at Birmingham Hippodrome
Spring season came to the Birmingham Hippodrome last night with the opening of the Birmingham Royal Ballet’s latest offerings, ‘The Dream’ and ‘A Month in the Company’. This Sir Frederick Ashton double bill transported the audience to the Forest of Arden for a balletic take on ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ and to Victorian Russia for a tale of forbidden romance and emotion. Two very different ballets, both totally wonderful in their own way. The Dream The classic Shakespeare story lends itself so beautifully to ballet. Titania (a stunning, ethereal Nao Sakuma) quarrels with her King Oberon, the King of the Fairies over a changeling boy who he wants to be…
