Get the celebrity look with Alexa Chung, Jourdan Dunn and Soru Jewellery
Today’s get the celebrity look post is as eclectic as ever. I’m featuring Derby Day style, bridesmaids preparation style and a jewellery company from Birmingham being worn with style by a Hollywood legend. You can’t say that the post doesn’t contain variety! I’m starting with another Midlander, the amazing Denise Lewis, who was definitely one of the best dressed at the Derby in Jacques Vert. Her dress is now in the sale, so worth grabbing if you have a ladies day event, a summer wedding or any other very special occasion. The Topshop Unique pre-fall collection is now available in store and online. This was worn by quite a few…

Aluna opens its doors for Cocktail fun
On a gloriously warm Thursday evening I made my way to the canalside at Birmingham’s Mailbox for the launch of Aluna, the city’s newest cocktail venue. I was intrigued by the promise of unusual cocktail mixes in a stunning newly furnished bar, especially as I had been a fan of The Oriental restaurant that had previously been based in the building. I’m pleased to report that Aluna is stunning, both in decor and in concept, a new, must visit destination for cocktail lovers. On the evening press, bloggers and VIPS were treated to Champagne, canapes and the vast array of cocktails – there are more than 80 on the menu…

Little Voice brings Judy and Marilyn to life at the Birmingham Rep
One of the most memorable scenes in modern film is the one where a drunken, shambolic Ray Say, played by the magnificent Michael Caine, sings an expletive laden version of ‘It’s Over’ by Roy Orbison. This is, of course, a scene from Little Voice, the film version of the National theatre smash hit ‘The Rise and Fall of the Little Voice’, and it is one of my favourite films. So I had very high expectations of the new touring production starring ex Coronation Street stalwarts Vicky Entwhistle and Chris Gascoyne that opened at the Birmingham Rep last night. I’m pleased to say that the play and performances exceeded every single…

Frankie and Benny’s great new kids menu
On Sunday, my family and I were invited along to Frankie and Benny’s at The Fort Shopping Centre in order to review their latest children’s menu. As a family, we are already big fans of the Italian/American restaurant, finding them to be very family friendly with a great extensive menu, but I had never been to The Fort branch before. Needless to say, we had a wonderful time. The children’s menu has been extended, with new options that include ‘build a burger’ and ‘wrap it up chicken’ options. The children’s menu is good in that it is divided into two separate sections, ‘kids’ and ‘juniors’ so that it caters for…

A few unusual places to dine
There is nothing I like better than dining out, either for brunch, lunch or dinner. I love many different kinds of cuisines and have a few restaurants that I would consider ‘favourites’ from Bellagio’s Italian restaurant in West Bromwich, to Thai Orchid in Birmingham, and quite a few different places in London. But as much as I love to revisit my favourites, it is also great to try new, interesting and unusual places to eat. Here are a few new ventures, interesting ideas and pop-up’s in the world of food. Bunga Bunga London Bunga Bunga is based in Battersea and is named for Silvio Berlusconi’s ‘Bunga Bunga Girls’. I haven’t…
