Talking Careless Memories with Denis O’Regan
Denis O’Regan is a rock legend. The tour photographer on some of the key tours in music since the 1980s, this week Denis was in Birmingham to launch his new coffee table book, ‘Careless Memories’, which chronicles his time on the road with Duran Duran on their Sing Blue Silver tour in 1984. The book is also accompanied by a wonderful exhibition of his Duran Duran tour photographs at Birmingham’s Malmaison, which starts on April 23rd. Beauty Confidential at House of Fraser
Just before I took some time off for an Easter Break, I attended an event at Birmingham’s House of Fraser (which I still affectionately know as Rackhams!). The event was Beauty Confidential, which promised to be an evening of demonstrations, great Beauty and fragrance discounts, and all round beauty fun. There were some great promotions going on throughout the store. Bobbi Brown were giving 5 minute smokey eyes sessions or the 15 minute secret to smokey skin. Chanel were indulging guests with a flash lip make-over with the iconic Rouge Coco, and there were complimentary samples available with every purchase. Disney on Ice Magical Ice Festival
There are no prizes for guessing what the highlight of the Disney on Ice Magical Ice Festival was, when it opened at the Genting Arena in Birmingham last night. Frozen has been a total phenomenon, the biggest new Disney hit in years, with ‘Let it Go’ being that song that you simply cannot dislodge from your brain. And last night in Birmingham, listening to the whole of the auditorium singing along with Elsa at the top of their voices, you realised you were in the midst of a very special moment. A Beautiful Mind at Harvey Nichols, Birmingham
There was a big night of beauty taking place at Harvey Nichols in Birmingham’s Mailbox last Thursday. ‘A Beautiful Mind’ delivered a series of masterclasses in hair, skincare, brows and beauty, whilst serving up beauty discounts and champagne and cocktails. I was invited along to enjoy the proceedings, learn a few lessons, and enjoy a little bit of pampering. I arrived early and so used the opportunity to have a browse at the latest beauty offerings and enjoy a cocktail of Prosecco and ginger created by using Ficks cocktail fortifier – apparently it helps prevent a hangover. Gourmet Burger Kitchen Grill Warming
Last night, my family and I were very lucky to attend the grill warming at Gourmet Burger Kitchen in The Mailbox, Birmingham. The restaurant had been closed for a period of time for a £350,000 exterior and interior refurbishment, and opens officially today (Friday 13th March). The Grill Warming was an opportunity to check out the new improvements in decor, whilst trying out the delicious menu. I have to say, we had a fantastic time. The restaurant was buzzing with atmosphere, with the new decor featuring dark wood paneling and gorgeous antique effect lighting giving the whole place a retro feel that was warm and inviting.
