Foodie Review – Beefeater Longford House
It is a little embarrassing to say that there is a Beefeater restaurant, situated in a lovely 18th Century Public House, that is just a 10 minute drive from my house, and yet I had never tried it. But until yesterday, this was a true fact. The Longford House is a fabulous old building which has recently had extensive renovations to make it a bright and airy modern restaurant, and on Sunday we went along to sample some of the delights of the current menu. The Beefeater menu is extensive, with a good mixture of steaks, pasta, salads and grills. On Sunday, it also has the option of Roasts on…

Strada launches a new kids menu
I often take my six year old Joe into Birmingham, either to visit museums, or currently to hunt for owls. A trip to Birmingham always includes food, but, if I’m honest, Strada is not usually my first choice. But this is about to change with the launch of a new Strada Kids menu that offers delicious choices that are a world away from the ‘chicken nuggets and chips’ options that kids are so often offered. To celebrate the launch of ‘The Strada Squad Menu’ I was invited to bring Joe to a special tasting session at Strada in Birmingham’s Mailbox. The idea was that Joe could sample some of…

Social Plates at Gas Street Social
Gas Street Social has been a great addition to Birmingham’s thriving food and cocktail scene and I was very happy to be invited to try out one of its most successful innovations, the social sharing plates. So yesterday I made a trip to Birmingham’s Mailbox to try out a selection of the dishes on the social menu. The social plates are a range of dishes that are meant to be shared – sort of like tapas, but on a larger scale. The idea is that you choose a selection of dishes to share amongst a group, these can be from a vegetable, meat of fish selection. This is a great…

When it comes to fish and chips, there is a restaurant chain that has almost legendary status. Harry Ramsden’s has been serving its world famous fish and chips for 75 years now, but I am ashamed to say that until this weekend, I had never been to a Harry’s restaurant. But when it Blackpool, on the Promenade, what else are you going to eat but fish and chips? With the Harry Ramsden’s restaurant situated by the Tower, it was the perfect time to experience that secret recipe batter and enjoy one of Britain’s signature dishes in its most famous home. We arrived at 12.30 and I was instantly impressed with…

A weekend in Blackpool with Travelodge Southshore
I adore Blackpool, it is definitely the flashiest, glitiziest place in the UK, and the sight of that iconic tower always makes my heart skip a beat. I do think finding really good accommodation at an affordable price and in walking distance of the attractions is difficult though – there are lots of guest house around but you really do hear some horror stories. So why not opt for a stay in one of the UK’s most trusted, affordable hotel chains – Travelodge? We did, and we were certainly very impressed by all aspects of our stay. Location Travelodge Blackpool Southshore is situated on Bloomfield Rd, opposite the Blackpool FC…
