The Golden Globes – The Best Looks.
Last night saw the REAL start of the Awards season, with the Golden Globe Awards. This saw a fabulous array of red carpet dresses from a host of designers and in a sea of colours. Here are my favourite looks from the night. There were examples of Old School Hollywood glamour on the red carpet. Angelina Jolie channelled a Marilyn Monroe style in Atelier Versace, a nude dress with red accents that just draped every curve. I loved how she kept her hair simple, letting the dress speak for itself. Sofia Vergara showed why she is a modern-day Sophia Loren in a form-fitting Vera Wang fishtail style dress. Some said…

Maybe it was because she was a woman, but Eve Arnold never felt the need to over sexualise Marilyn Monroe like some of the studio photographers did. In her photographs, many taken on the set of The Misfits, Marilyn is an earthy presence, beautiful and natural, a captivating woman with undeniable vulnerability. I first became a fan of Eve’s work in my late teens. My week with Marilyn
I’ve been a Marilyn Monroe fan for as long as I can remember. Her sheer glamour, loveable persona and that beautiful face and figure made her my key beauty icon whilst I was growing up. Add in her tumultuous love life and mysterious death and you get one of the most fascinating personalities of the 20th century. But even with all these key ingredients, making a good film about this Icon has been difficult. The best portrayal was by Catherine Hicks in the 1980 film, Marilyn – The Untold Story. We’ve only just stopped talking about her last appearance on the Marc Jacobs/Louis Vuitton catwalk, the one where she appeared to be wearing support pants and was smoking a cigarette on National No smoking day.
