End of the Rainbow – Judy’s swansong at the Wolverhampton Grand
If ‘Over the Rainbow’ was Judy Garland’s signiture tune, then ‘End of the Rainbow’ is definitely her swansong. The play, that started a three night run at the Wolverhampton Grand last night, is the story of the screen legend in the months before she died, during a 6 week run at London’s ‘Talk of the Town’. This is Judy destroyed by the alcohol, the pills, the late nights, bad men and heartache, with no will to go on with the show anymore. Set in London in the early months of 1969, the play is a three hander concerning Judy, her fiance Mickey Deans and her erstwhile piano player Anthony Chapman.…

Easter – Essential Movie Viewing
Easter is almost upon us, but it looks like my favourite bank holiday of the year is once again going to be marred with wind and rain. We are heading off to Wales, my favourite place for rest and relaxation, but one that seems to be permanently wedged under a rain cloud, so I’m planning on catching up on some of my favourite dvd’s, eating lots of chocolate, and generally chilling out. If you are planning on doing the same, both home or away, the best way of viewing your favourite movies is on a Panasonic 4k TV, which offer the best viewing experience due to crisper, clearer pictures (four…

Daisy Ridley – new star (wars) style icon
You may not be familiar with the name Daisy Ridley yet, but give it a week and this is going to be the girl that everyone is talking about. Daisy is, of course, one of the stars of the movie that is already breaking box office records everywhere – ‘Star Wars – The Force Awakens’, playing Rey, who is described intriguingly as ” a resilient survivor, a scavenger toughened by a lifetime of dealing with the cutthroats of the harsh desert world of Jakku.” But even if Star Wars is not your thing, Daisy has been impressing in areas other than great acting. In short, she is a red carpet…

Mailbox Sessions at the Everyman Cinema
The Birmingham Mailbox was relaunched in some style last month with Mailbox Sessions. Taking place over a weekend, the Mailbox Sessions were special, free events dedicated to showcasing the best of the Mailbox in terms of fashion and beauty, food and entertainment. Many of the sessions were presented by the lovely Lucy Kite from ITV, and all were well attended. I was invited to quite a few of the sessions, but the one which totally had me jumping up and down was a Breakfast at Tiffany’s special at the Everyman Cinema. The session was all about having breakfast at a screening of Breakfast at Tiffany’s, complete with Bucks Fizz and…

Feel the Need for Speed with Top Gun at the Drive In
Top Gun is one of the most iconic films of the 1980s. I remember having the hugest of crushes on Tom Cruise in 1986, and creeping in to see what was a 15 certificate movie, with my also underage school mates, and coming out of the cinema just full of adoration for ‘Maverick’, crying over poor Goose, and singing ‘Take My Breath Away’ out loud. It is only apt that I should marry a man who’s favourite film is…wait for it…Top Gun. Yes folks, Pete can virtually quote the script word for word. So when an invitation appears for a front row space at the special Intu Merry Hill charity…
