Essential Items You Need In Your Capsule Wardrobe

Creating a capsule wardrobe can be tricky if you’re not sure where to start. A capsule wardrobe is supposed to include clothes and accessories that you can use to create a broad range of looks. Your collection should contain clothes that you think are essential and necessary and cover any occasion.

De-cluttering can help you to see which clothes you need to fill in the gaps. It’s hard to get rid of clothes (I know!) but you’ll soon realise just how many items you never wear. Streamline your wardrobe and you will actually make all the pieces earn their keep. But regardless of how full your wardrobe is, these are a few of the things that I think are essential to every woman’s wardrobe.

The Right Colours

If you want to go all the way and create a real capsule wardrobe, make sure you’re choosing the right colours! Neutral colours will match everything else you own. For example, if you buy a black top, you know you can brighten it up with colourful accessories.

Choosing clothing in this way is all about picking timeless pieces that you can wear again and again. If you select too many bright colours and fussy patterns, you’ll struggle to match them. Of course, you shouldn’t avoid patterns altogether, but make sure you sort the neutrals first.

Complementary Accessories

Jewellery helps to create your overall look. If you have a select few pieces that you can mix and match for every occasion, you’ll will always be able to accessorise well. New accessories can be expensive, but a select few will take you through the all seasons.

Big, bold statement necklaces are always in fashion. You can use them to add sparkle to the plainest outfits. Opt for something silver or gold and even something colourful to go with black dresses.

Classic pearl earrings are worth investing in as pearls are so elegant and look so classy with an up-do!

I also make sure I always have a selection of rings, belts and bracelets to help dress up my closet.

Perfect Bag

Handbags don’t get as much credit as they deserve. The perfect bag can tie an outfit together just like that! A large bag with a smart cut like the ones from I Flew The Nest are ideal for a capsule wardrobe. I love bags like this as they can easily be dressed up or dressed down.

Of course, a woman can never have too many bags! I always opt for a simple clutch for parties and formal events. If you choose something in a neutral colour or metallic shade, it will match every outfit, no matter the occasion.

The Little Black Dress

If there is one item that is absolutely essential, it’s the ultimate little black dress! The little black dress, or the LBD if you like, is one of the most versatile things to have in your wardrobe. Go for something that fits well and doesn’t have too many embellishments,  you can always use accessories if you want to dress it up.

The more simple the dress is, the easier it is to change the look with bags, shoes, jackets and more. If you choose a dress designed for your body shape, you’ll find it’s even easier to dress up or down.

An LBD with a pair of bright heels and a statement necklace is one of my favourite party looks. It’s easy to see why celebrities love their little black dresses.
