LOUISE IS HAIR-RAISING AWARENESS FOR KIDS’ CHARITIES

It’s not very often you get a press release that makes you wonder with awe about people who really want to make a difference to someone elses life. I received one today from the lovely Faith Brotherston, who told me that this story wasn’t really about fashion, although it does involve someone with beautiful long hair, and the Birmingham super salon Puro Hair.This is instead an inspirational story of how one young woman’s much admired locks are going to help children suffering from dreadful cancers. It was also a tale of how Fashion-Mommy readers could help the lady in question to raise money to give very poorly children special treats through the charity Ray of Sunshine.

A Birmingham wordsmith is going for the chop in a bid to raise funds and awareness of two vital charities that work with sick children.Copywriter Louise Wright, of Digbeth, Birmingham will put herself in the capable hands of city centre salon Puro Hair on July 21st and allow the stylists to snip off her mane before giving her tresses to Little Princesses, a charity that makes wigs for children who have lost their hair as a result of undergoing cancer treatment.Louise is now seeking sponsorship so that when the stylist gets scissor-happy, in addition to donating 10 inches of her hair, she can provide vital funds to Rays of Sunshine, a second charity that supports seriously ill children by endeavouring to grant their wishes.

Louise said: “My flatmate has been nagging me for years to get my hair cut as she is sick of having to use more than two boxes of hair dye every time she does my hair. I jokingly said I would only get it cut when it was long enough to donate to charity and then thought it was actually a very good idea. I thought that more than one charity could benefit and as I’ve always thought Rays Of Sunshine has done great work giving seriously ill children something to smile about, I chose them.”

Louise hopes to raise a minimum of £1,000 to help put a smile on children’s faces and give them an experience to remember.“I’ve contacted everyone I’m connected to on various social media sites to ask them to consider donating just £2, which isn’t a massive amount to any one person, but when added together will make a real difference for these sick children. Already the figures are creeping up and I am hopeful that I’ll meet, maybe even exceed, my target.

“Not many people know that your own hair can be donated to charities like Little Princesses and it can really boost a child’s confidence after going through, not only the trauma of being ill, but also losing their hair making their illness a constant reminder to them.” She said.
