Lowie – Luxurious Winter knits
One of my favourite UK brands at the moment is the luxury knitwear company Lowie. Taking the finest soft wools, Lowie’s knitwear is hand-knitted, hand sen and often hand- embroidered, taking the finest traditions of handicrafts from across the world, and using them to create totally wonderful modern clothes and accessories that have a decidedly vintage slant.
Lowie already have a celebrity following who have been enticed by the softness of the wool that is combined with bright, funky colours that can lift the darkness coat into serious style territory. Lily Cole, Fearne Cotton and Luella Bartley are all fans of the label, which is becoming one of the gems of British fashion. Here are some of my key picks from the A/W 2012 collection, a collection that should be on the top of everyone’s Christmas gift list, whether to give, or to receive.
If there is one thing you should buy from Lowie this year, it is a hat. Can you believe it is still only September and I am already wearing mine. I love my Lowie yellow Virgin Cable Wool beret because it is so soft and very pretty. It always gets the attention and lots of fab comments, and unlike many wool hats that I have worn in the past, this doesn’t itch like mad. It looks fabulous worn with black, but I also love to colour clash this with lots of reds, purples and cobalt blues.
The Merino Wool latice scarf is a real touch of vintage style elegance. If you are one of those people who have too much scarfage and don’t know what to do with it, this is the design for you. The lattice fastening means that you simply pull this over your head to wear it. You can wear this very neatly tucked into your coat as it will not be bulky, but I prefer it worn loose as it is just so pretty. Think 1940s style chintz and you get the idea of this wonderful design.
My final pick are the Turkish colourful socks, which are not only really fun. but multi-functional too. These could be worn as bedsocks, they are thick enough to keep your feet warm on even the coldest of winter nights. But I really like wearing these underneath my wellies for the school run. Wellies are great for keeping feet dry, but they are notoriously cold and so I often resort to two pairs of socks underneath. You don’t need to do that with these socks. I’ve added them to my Christmas list for my sister-in-law, who skies, as I think these would be perfect under snowboots too.
