Reviewed: A Cashmere Beret From Minnirella
Is there a more iconic piece of headwear than a beret? Beloved of the French, especially when teamed with a classic trench coat, the beret is stylish, whilst also remaining both cool and quirky. It has also had some seriously stylish fans over the years, sporting a range of stunning looks, from Faye Dunaway as Bonnie Parker in Bonnie and Clyde, to both Marlene Dietrich and Greta Garbo, to Marilyn Monroe, Twiggy, Madonna and Alicia Silverstone as Cher in Clueless, there have been some truly iconic looks that have featured berets. More recently, Lily Collins as Emily in Paris has had to adopt the look, the most Parisian look of them all, as Left Bank as you can possibly get.
I must admit to having mixed fortunes to berets over the years. I had a black one a long time ago that I wore until it virtually dropped off my head, but bought another black one at Christmas and decided I didn’t like it, looking more Frank Spencer than Brigitte Bardot. But now I have found a beret that I love, one from an independent British company, and one that is made from cashmere.
Minnirelli are an independent accessories company that have a zero waste policy. They stock a range of pretty scrunchies, jewellery and accessories, one of which is the gorgeous Autumn Orange Cashmere Beret that retails at £39.99. This piece is handmade in Europe and is 100% cashmere, making it so cosy and warm to wear, particularly on the chilly Spring days we are now experiencing.
This beret is a gorgeous warm shade of orange, which makes it a perfect match for so many other shades including classic black and neutrals, and and also more vibrant, jewelled shades of deep blues and greens. The hat is easy to style, either worn at a jaunty angle on the side of your head, or worn over more of the head in the Faye Dunaway style.
One of the things I love about this beret is that, because it is cashmere, it doesn’t cause crazy static head, which can sometimes happen with wool hats, leading to terribly static hair – not a good look when you go inside and need to remove your hat. I love it with my casual outfit below, but know that this could also look so chic with a elegant black dress and heels.
The beret is classic, iconic, versatile and beautiful. What’s not to love?
