Review – Tiger Frames from Perfect Glasses

A few weeks ago I wrote about Perfect Glasses, a great destination to find a wide range of prescription glasses and sunglasses at affordable, discount prices. (You can find that original article here). Today I am reviewing a pair of the sunglasses from the site, because all the sunglass designs also be designed with plain glass as well as prescription lenses. The glasses I chose from the site were the Tiger design that currently have 50% off with the code PAYHALF.

The Tiger glasses are a cute, retro design with an tortoiseshell print frame that screams 1950s poolside glamour. Very lightweight in design, these are the perfect glasses for those who think sunglasses are not for them due to heavy frames, or pain caused across the bridge or side of the nose. The shaped arms are elegant in that they are not too thick, again the lightness of the material means that these sit comfortably behind the ear, without rubbing or tightness.

The glasses have tinted lenses, but can also come with Single vision,  Bifocals  and Multifocal lenses, making these suitable even if you have issues with your eyesight.  A scratch resistant coating is also a great fixture, especially if, like me, you are prone to leaving your sunglasses lying around the house, or just throwing them into your bag. In addition to the coating, the glasses come with a lovely, sturdy glass case and a microfibre cloth for cleaning purposes.

I love the retro feel of these glasses that the tortoiseshell frame gives them, it is not the cats eye style of the 1950s, but they definitely have a movie queen aura to them. I styled my glasses 1970s style, with a midi skirt and plain white t-shirt top, brown vintage platforms and red lipstick.  This was a relaxed daytime look, but as we move into Summer, and evening occasions that are spent outside, I can see the glasses looking very glam teamed with a little black shift dress, or a pretty summer sundress. Similarly, the light frames mean that these will take up no room at all in your hand luggage when I head off to my summer holidays, and will look airport chic teamed with cool cottons when I jet off to Cyprus next month.

If you have yet to choose your summer sunnies, it is definitely worth taking a look at Perfect Glasses. Their current summer discount means you can get 50% off sunglasses, which is a brilliant saving, and the choice of so many different types of frames, and lenses, mean that you should be able to find something for both your needs and aesthetic taste.

Simply Be Plise Ruffle Midi Dress Reviewed

I am a huge fan of Simply Be. They offer great quality clothing that comes in a really good range of sizes, with the sizing actually being true to size (one of my main bugbears of fashion is when a size large is a size 12!). I also love that the website is a one stop shop, you can get everything from holiday fashion to formal wear, you can find a dress for a wedding, a prom, for sightseeing, or to wear for work. The range is vast and varied and I would defy anyone to not find something they liked, whatever their taste.

My current favourite is the Simply Be Plise ruffle midi dress that seems to be my go-to party dress at the moment. As someone who is pretty obsessed with the 1970s, particularly the Studio 54 era, this is a dress that I can well imagine Bianca Jagger or Jerry Hall wearing as they danced the night away with Andy Warhol. The rich emerald green colour is just vibrant and stunning, and yet, for a dress that can only be described as super glamorous, it is also decidedly comfortable to wear – with no zips or fastenings, and in a super stretchy plise fabric.

This dress is perfect for holidays, you can easily team it with a glittery sandal and clutch bag, and the easy pull on style and non crease fabric makes it great to throw into the suitcase. That said, the deep green colour and luxurious plise style pleats also give this a very glamorous feel, and I can easily see this dress being a hit at Christmas parties. I wore this recently to a birthday party, teamed with a heeled sandal and it was a dress that I had lots of positive comments.

I keep mentioning that this dress is really easy to wear because it truly is. The elastication around the bust means that the dress is secure and will not lead to any embarrassing situations, it stays in place. But the elastic is not tight under the arms and does not leave marks – something I have experienced with other elasticated ‘boob tubes’.

For the ultimate in party dresses, I can’t recommend this one highly enough, just add a pair of chandelier earrings and some mermaid hair and your set to go, Jerry Hall style circa 1975.

Reviewed ‘Gry’ Cotton Tunic from Gudrun Sjoden

When the sun is beating down making us all feel a little hot and sticky, there is nothing in your wardrobe that can beat the coolness of a cotton tunic. It ca help you avoid sunburn by covering the sensitive skin on your shoulders, and yet the freshness of the cotton also means that you remain looking fresh and cool even when the weather reaches 100 degrees.

Gry cotton tunic, now £50

Gudrun Sjoden has produced a really beautiful cotton kaftan that is just perfect for the gorgeous weather we are enjoying at the moment. Called the ‘Gry’, this is a 1970s vintage style tunic that is also a great buy if you are going away on holiday this summer. It comes in two colour ways, a beautiful primrose yellow, and a classic white with blue embroidered yolk detail. I was lucky enough to be sent the white version and made sure it had pride of place in my suitcase on my recent holiday to Menorca.

I cannot recommend this tunic enough, I totally loved it. For a start it is loose, which makes it such a cool item to wear. The sleeves are not tight or restrictive, also important when the temperatures start to rise. The length means that this is the perfect cover-up when you want to leave the beach or pool and go and eat. The yoking detail on the neckline is super pretty, and adds just a splash of colour for interest level.  This tunic reminds me of early Laura Ashley designs, those 1970s smocks and dresses that inspired boho chic, and could easily be worn with a belt as a dress perfect for festival season.

This is a great piece to have in your wardrobe, one which you will wear year after year. The great news is that it is currently in the Gudrun Sjoden sale with £15 off, so it is an even better buy. Definitely worth checking out.
