A Swimshop Swimwear review

Often when we talk about swimwear, we really mean the sort of stuff we wear for topping up our tans on the beach – i.e. something skimpy, pretty, and not really suitable for swimming in at all. If you are looking for swimwear this year that is actually fit for the purpose it was named for – i.e swimming, then Swimshop is the place you should be turning to. Here there is a great range of swimwear that looks good, but is substantial enough for doing lengths at your local pool.

I love swimming, last Summer I was taking Joe at least twice a week to our local baths and his swimming really improved, while I totally enjoyed the exercise, especially on those lovely warm days we enjoyed. I am definitely a swimsuit sort of girl – I don’t have the sort of body that I want to show off in a bikini, and I find tankini’s seem to roll up one way and roll down the other (anyone with a tum knows exactly what I’m talking about.) When Swimshop asked if I was interested in reviewing a piece from their swimwear collection, I headed straight to the cossies!

Swimshop has an extensive collection of swimwear, including pieces from Adiddas, Zoggs, Speedo and Funkita. There are sporty styles, and more traditional holiday swimsuits, and a good range of sizes ranging from petites to plus size. I chose the Zoggs ‘Womens Blue Bazaar Twist Booty Suit in Navy / Blue’. I liked the fact that the legs were low cut, and the neckline was a sweetheart style that I thought would work well on a bigger bust.  It also contained an inner bra shelf – I really didn’t realise how many women actually still wore their bra under their costume until I started reading blogs. I never have but still like the support an inner layer gives.

The costume is created in soft, high stretch and chlorine resistant HydroLife™ fabric, this means that the swimsuit offers fantastic shape and colour retention for at least 200 hours of pool use. This means it will last a lot longer than one holiday, and therefore offers great value for £23.

I think the swimsuit looks quite glam with this F&F kimono.

Beach ready

I found this swimsuit to be a comfortable fit due to the shape, although I would be tempted to size up if I was to order again – the fabric is slightly thicker than some swimsuits so the stretch feels less pliable. The design is pretty enough for you to wear this on your holidays, but this is definitely a swimsuit you can actually swim in, without fear of falling out. This does have a slightly more grown up feel to it, a little bit retro 1940s in style, and the sweetheart neckline is very pretty.

If you are going on holiday soon I would definitely recommend Swimshop, the range of designs means you will definitely find something to suit your taste.

Family Fever

Making a saving on the summer holiday wardrobe

As much as I love the physical activity of shopping, I find that these days I do it less and less. There are many reasons for this. The first is that I work from home during the week, and find it a little bit naughty to just take off on a shopping trip when I’m meant to be working. The second reason is, come the weekend, we do a lot of family activities, and my little boy Joe is most definitely shopping-phobic, so we tend to avoid shopping centres in the main and any shop that isn’t a sports or toy shop in general.

With Joe showing his distaste for shopping…yes the carrier bag does contain a football.

So this means that I do tend to do a lot of my shopping online. And although this does mean I get to miss out on the general rush of physically walking around my favourite stores (because filling an online basket is not the same), it does mean I can use sites like VoucherBin to make the best possible savings, and find out about any new sales and promotions. (Click to find out more about their latest offers.)

My shopping is currently all focused on my upcoming summer holiday, which is now less that 2 months away. I am quite frugal when it comes to holiday shopping, tending to shop for certain items rather than a whole wardrobe. I get at least one new swimsuit (not a bikini girl I’m afraid), sandals for evening wear and flip flops for around the pool, a great beach bag, and a couple of dresses for sightseeing and evening wear. Everything else I find in my wardrobe.

For this holiday I have found some discount offers for one of my favourite stores, Wallis, with up to 60% off sales, free delivery on orders over £50 and also some pieces that are currently under £20.

Here are some of the picks that I hope will be winging their way into my holiday suitcase very soon.
