Lego Deep Sea Explorers at Birmingham Sea Life Centre
The Sea Life Centre in Birmingham is one of the City’s top family attractions. Each Summer it has a special themed event to tie into school holiday time, with Moshi Monsters and Octonauts being featured in previous years. This year, children are offered the chance to be Deep Sea Explorers with Lego City, having a dive log book which they are able to stamp as they proceed around the centre finding Lego equipment and answering questions about the creatures of the Sea Life Centre. On Saturday, I took my family to the centre to attempt the challenge. We had great fun. Any trip to the Birmingham Sea Life Centre starts…

Aluna opens its doors for Cocktail fun
On a gloriously warm Thursday evening I made my way to the canalside at Birmingham’s Mailbox for the launch of Aluna, the city’s newest cocktail venue. I was intrigued by the promise of unusual cocktail mixes in a stunning newly furnished bar, especially as I had been a fan of The Oriental restaurant that had previously been based in the building. I’m pleased to report that Aluna is stunning, both in decor and in concept, a new, must visit destination for cocktail lovers. On the evening press, bloggers and VIPS were treated to Champagne, canapes and the vast array of cocktails – there are more than 80 on the menu…

Frankie and Benny’s great new kids menu
On Sunday, my family and I were invited along to Frankie and Benny’s at The Fort Shopping Centre in order to review their latest children’s menu. As a family, we are already big fans of the Italian/American restaurant, finding them to be very family friendly with a great extensive menu, but I had never been to The Fort branch before. Needless to say, we had a wonderful time. The children’s menu has been extended, with new options that include ‘build a burger’ and ‘wrap it up chicken’ options. The children’s menu is good in that it is divided into two separate sections, ‘kids’ and ‘juniors’ so that it caters for…

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels charm at The New Alex
Two very different conmen, a suave man of the world who may also be a Prince, or a pychiatrist, on any given day, and a young and vulgar upstart who spins an unlikely yarn in a way that could bring tears to the eyes. These were the Scoundrels who charmed and delighted the New Alex Theatre last night. It was the press launch for ‘Dirty Rotten Scoundrels’, which showed, in all it’s glory, why it was nominated for 10 Tony Awards, including best new musical. It is simply one of the best nights in theatre. Lawrence (the suave and devilish Michael Praed) is the king of the Riviera Conmen, able…

A Beautiful Mind at Harvey Nichols, Birmingham
There was a big night of beauty taking place at Harvey Nichols in Birmingham’s Mailbox last Thursday. ‘A Beautiful Mind’ delivered a series of masterclasses in hair, skincare, brows and beauty, whilst serving up beauty discounts and champagne and cocktails. I was invited along to enjoy the proceedings, learn a few lessons, and enjoy a little bit of pampering. I arrived early and so used the opportunity to have a browse at the latest beauty offerings and enjoy a cocktail of Prosecco and ginger created by using Ficks cocktail fortifier – apparently it helps prevent a hangover. To be honest, as much as I love ginger ale, I think this…
