Choosing The Right Bra

No matter how amazing your clothing choices are, to look good you need the right foundations, and this means your underwear. Most women are aware that choosing pants with a non visible panty line can make all the difference to the look of an outfit, particularly if it is form fitting look. But the wrong bra can be equally perilous when it comes to looking your best, with women choosing the wrong style, the wrong shape, and even the wrong size.

Here are a few tips that you should consider when choosing your bra.

Is it the right size?

So many women wear the wrong sized bra due to not having a regular bra fitting. Yet many bra companies will do bra fitting for free, with most fittings no longer requiring the old fashioned tape measure method when it comes to sizing. A bra fitting is essential if you have had a child, have lost or gained weight, or if your bra is just feeling loose or tight.

To wire or not to wire?

The type of support you need from your bra depends on the size of your bust. Smaller busts may be able to get away with wearing a softer bra without underwiring. Larger busts may need the support and scaffolding that underwired bras offer.  These days underwired bras are as pretty and elegant as their non wired sisters, companies like David Nieper have glamorous underwired bras that come in a range of colours and fabrics.

What style of bra do you need?

Is there anything worse than unsightly bra straps ruining an outfit? Two bra straps either side of a halter neckline? A bra fastening looking totally out of place with a backless dress? A multi ways bra should address all these issues, and allow you to get the support you need for your look to be flawless. Even if your look is one that doesn’t allow for a traditional style bra, there are now stick on styles that give you coverage and support from the front so that you avoid having nipples showing through your dress, especially important for formal occasions, or if you are a wedding guest.

Colour?

A no brainer really. Make sure you are wearing the right colour bra for your outfit. Unless you are aiming to be edgy and make a statement, a white dress needs a white bra. If you are wearing black, you need a black bra, particularly if you are having photographs taken – flash photography can often reveal what you are wearing underneath your outfit.

Luxury Nightwear Ideas

Last Saturday I had a PJ day. Joe was away for the weekend and the weather was particularly nasty and so I made toasties, found an Agatha Christie box set to watch and stayed in my pyjamas and dressing gown for the whole day. It was bliss, comfy and cosy, and a day of sheer relaxation, safely away from the awful wind and rain that was outside. It did get me wondering though about the state of my PJs though. For if you are going to spend a cosy day wearing PJs, they should really be something a little more luxurious than Primark’s finest.

A lot of people will spend a lot of money on other items of clothing – jeans for instance can really break the bank. And yet when it comes to our nightwear and lounge wear, the things we wear to relax and sleep, we tend to skimp, when really this is an area when quality can really be telling. We spend a lot of time in our nightwear, we toss and turn in it, roll around in it, and also wear it when we are feeling ill, so it needs to be soft, comfortable and also hard wearing, otherwise we will be replacing it over and over again, making bargain pieces a false economy. But there are some really lovely luxury nightwear ideas out there, these are practical, stylish and come in fabrics like the softest cotton, both brushed for warm and light and soft for summer evenings. Jersey is another great fabric, stretching as you move around, but not actually getting stretched out of shape.

(Sleepwear ideas above from David Nieper – stockists of quality sleepwear.)

We tend to invest in quality sleepwear for certain occasions – if we have a hospital stay upcoming, or for our honeymoon, but there is no reason why we can’t invest in pieces for sleep and lounge wear just to treat ourselves.

Dressing Gowns – Fashion for Relaxation

As much as I love getting dressed up at this time of the year, adding the Christmas sparkle and glitter and basically enjoying the run up to Christmas, it is also true to say that by December 25th, I usually feel tired enough to sleep for a hundred years. So once Christmas is well and truly over, I have a few days where I try to wind down and relax, and basically avoid getting dressed at all. There are new DVDs to be watched, cheesy Christmas movies to enjoy, and those selection boxes to devour, and non of them require anything more than a pair of PJs and my dressing gown. Which is why a new, cosy dressing gown is one of my must buys for 2017.

My favourite sort of dressing gown has to be full length. Short robes are fine for putting on when you get out of the bath, but not for a lounging day – that one needs to give you full coverage, almost providing a blanket effect. I prefer a wrap style robe, is there anything that gives you a feeling so warm and cosy than wrapping up in your dressing gown, especially when the weather outside is anything but warm? My dressing gown of choice will also be fleecy, something that is soft and cuddly (what I am wearing right now as I type this), and, because at the moment I am currently fighting what feels like the world’s worst cold, it also has to have big, deep pockets which I can stuff with tissues.
