Treat Yourself To A New Handbag This Autumn

If there is one fashion item that I cannot resist, it is the lure of a new handbag. When it comes to clothes and shoes I can hold myself back, but a handbag…

I think it’s something to do with it being a treat item that you can use, whenever. It doesn’t matter if you lose or gain weight, your bag is totally forgiving. You can choose a designer label and it should last you for years, but the High Street often has the most covetable bags each season. You can choose a different design to match every outfit, or can opt for a totally classic investment piece that will work whatever you are wearing. Whether it be the lure of leather or suede, or if you are a magpie drawn to sparkling pieces, there is a handbag out there waiting for you.

They have all different bag shapes, from totes that work well as work bags and everyday bags, to clutch and box bags that will be brilliant come the party season.

My current Lotto Wishlist

Every so often I have a little daydream about what I would do if I was to win the National Lottery. Would I buy some huge house in the middle of nowhere, where Joe would be able to have his own full sized football pitch, complete with changing rooms to stop him bringing his muddy boots in the house? (grrrr). Would I take my family on an around the world cruise, taking in all my current dream destinations? (Iceland, New York, Hollywood and The Seychelles are on my current bucket wish list). The answer to the two above is probably, they both sound very nice. These days there are more chances to win the lottery than ever before, as you can use the Multilotto site to play on lots of different lotteries around the world, rather than being restricted to the UK lotteries and Euromillions.

So back to my dream scenario. Here are a few of the things I would buy, if my lucky numbers were to come up some time in the future.

A summer house and a hot tub

I spend a lot of time in the garden during Spring and Summer, so my new house would definitely have to have a summer house and a hot tub. I love the idea of spending time on warm summer evenings sitting in the tub with a glass of Champagne, pretending to be like the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. The Summer House would be my version of the man shed we keep hearing so much about, stocked with books and a wine chiller – and strictly a girls only place – my boys would have to get their own man shed!

A handbag shopping Spree

A definite, money is no object, Supermarket sweep through the luxury floors at Selfridges, grabbing designs by Sophie Hulme, Vivienne Westwood and Bottega Veneta. Imagine being able to say ‘yes, I’ll take it…and in every colour..’ I so have dreams like that!

Olivier Giroud for West Brom

I am a huge West Bromwich Albion fan and I would buy them the gift of Olivier Giroud, currently bench warming at Arsenal. He’s not the world’s best striker, but he is the prettiest, and as I would have my own executive box and a place on the board, this would keep me very happy! And this is my lottery dream win so I can buy exactly what I want. Giroud for West Brom – absolutely.

So there we have it, the house, the hot tub, the holiday, the summer house, the handbags and Olivier Giroud in a West Brom shirt. What more could a woman want?

A designer wishlist

I’m not really what you would call a label junkie, but I do love designer bags and shoes. When it comes to clothing, I’m not really the right size for most designer collections, so although I have the odd piece in my wardrobe, I’m perfectly happy to stick to High Street and vintage pieces. But designer bags and shoes are another proposition altogether. These I find hard to resist.

The good news is that these days, you don’t actually have to break the bank when it comes to buying a designer piece. I have quite a few amazing buys that I have found in charity shops, including bags from Marc Jacobs, Tods, DKNY and Sonia Rykiel, and shoes from Ferragamo, Bally and Givenchy. There are also great companies like Xupes who sell pre-owned and second-hand luxury goods and offer finance to help you pay for the goods, so you can spread the cost.  Xupes currently has handbags from Chanel, Celine and Hermes so we are talking about real premium brands. (They also specialise in watches so well worth a look if you love quality timepieces.)

When it comes to designer bags, this season I have a few stunning bags that are most definitely on my radar. I love the design of the Chloe Drew bag, and this season it now comes in a stunning mini suede and calf leather variety in Misty Rose, which is very similar to this year’s pantone colour Rose Quartz.

Another bag in a pantone colour is the Dotcom leather bag from Fendi. In a beautiful sky blue that resembles the wonderfully named Serenity (the other colour sharing the Pantone title for 2016), this is a wonderfully grown up, structured bag that would be so lovely in Spring.

The Longchamp Pliage bag is iconic and is a definite favourite of mine, I have two and use them all the time. The bag has been re-imagined in a beautiful coral shade for 2016, and I totally love this, and it is a bargain for £100 too.

Kate Spade is another favourite of mine when it comes to bags, I love the classic shapes and designs, but I also love the sense of fun she brings to her designs. The Cedar street harmony leather handbag reminds me of a beautiful kite with the bold primary colours looking fabulous.
